Was a little disappointed for him last year - called up to the Astros, played in 45 games, batted .164. Just never took off after a horrible start. And, I don't know who they've got at first this year, but last year that was a position of need for them - it was there for the taking, if I'm thinking right. And he just couldn't grab it. There are legions of stories about guys who got off to a slow start and then went on to have great careers, so we'll keep our fingers crossed that's the case with him
Side note: all the recent talk about the Louisville kid (Brendan McKay) who's going to go, supposedly, top 5 in the draft, and that he's likely good enough to make it as a pitcher or as an infielder....made me think about Reed, who won awards based on is play in the field and on the mound. You can't do much better than what Reed did that year at UK, yet, if I recall right, he was a second round pick, and like I said, this kid is supposedly top 5. Which then made me wonder what it was about Reed that made him fall to round 2. I do know the Astros, including the manager, have been high on him, or were at the time he made it up last year, so again, hoping it's just a slow start.....
