AJ Dybantsa to BYU

Rumor has it, his going price is between 6 and 7 million, hell that is way more than most of the NBA make.
You could legit build an entire top 5 team for that. Our current team is around 5 million dollars. So add another 2 and you could add the best player in the portal on top of not 2 of them. Super team.

Whether it's $4-5 mil or $7-8 mil, that's insane.

Is this money guaranteed, and is it for one year?

And on a side note, he better have a good fiduciary or he's gonna owe a butt-load of taxes.

Do not pay attention to that dude man . Go look in his posting history. Ryan Smith is funding the Dybantsa NIL deal . He is close to Kevin Young . It’s not the “fans are giving more because they view Young as an upgrade “ .

You can disagree if you want that’s fair. It’s an opinion.

I don’t know what the NIL budgets are for the top CBB programs (someone here can probably tell us what the average likely is), but if I assume it’s somewhere around $5-$7 Million then paying Dybantsa that kind money can’t be about winning games. It might be about BYU’s stature or profile and be deemed an expected positive return on investment for the program in the long run, but it’s not about winning games next season.

Then again, maybe BYU has a $30M budget because of the billionaire mentioned here and it doesn't matter what they promised in NIL. In that case I still wouldn't want Dybantsa, but at least you could pay for a more expensive supporting cast.
I 100% agree they're trying to make a splash and hoping it pays dividends. That's a great point.

They knew KY was Pope’s dream job, perhaps.

Honestly Mark Pope is a better man than me because I’d be insulted that BYU decided to play big boy basketball and open up the checkbook for the new guy and not me.

I think both of us will be happy how it played out eventually but it still sort of rubs me the wrong way.
