Agbim enters portal

Idk. Kid looks incredible obviously and he'll do great here!

BUT- if we take this kid, we're still going to be really lacking in elite, SEC-caliber size on the perimeter.

This kid is generously listed at 6'3 (he isn't), and is only 180 pounds.

Jasper Johnson is listed at 6'4 (generously), 175 pounds.

Acaden Lewis is 6'2, 170.

Travis Perry is 6'1, 180.

Auburn this year started 6'4, 6'6 and 6'7 on the perimeter.

Florida only started 6'2, 6'4 and 6'4, but they are big, strong, physical, stocky guards (especially Martin and Richards), all over 200 pounds.

Not sure going into next season with Oweh as our only real "physical", SEC-Caliber presence on the perimeter is the way to go.

We all agreed this season throughout the year that we were lacking in elite SEC size to be paired with the perimeter skill.

Just not sure taking another kid in this mold really fixes that problem.
I know how we can fix this problem, let's bring in Braden Smith. 🙄

So do you, but I have absolutely zero confidence you have the ability. You will be the last person on this board to come to grips with where we are now as a program. You have no idea if those numbers (which are two million dollars apart! ha ha) are accurate or how many years that amount would be meant to cover. If we had as much money as you think we have to spend, we wouldn't have missed on so many guys we wanted in the portal this past period. But I'm sure you've got complete amnesia regarding that. Just keep lying to yourself so that reality bites you even harder.
Mitch said we had $4 million committed annually by May of last year.

Club Blue has eclipsed the $1.5 million dollar range.

Basic inference skills suggest that $5.5 million is only going to increase given the excitement Pope has brought to Lexington. That and the fact that they are willing to pledge $3.3 million combined to two players (Johnson at $1.3 and Ament at $2 million) demonstrates that the NIL is a lot higher than you are suggesting.

Fair enough, maybe lines did get crossed.

I'm not saying not to take this kid.

BUT, I am saying, if you take this kid, you need to have a plan to go out and get at least 2 other perimeter players who are bigger, stronger & more versatile.

Perry, Lewis, Johnson, Oweh and Agbim is not a lineup that will hold up against some of the more elite SEC backcourts from a size and versatility standpoint.
Doesn't uf loose their big guards this year? Most of the other guards in the league aren't that size. Most are in the 6'1" to 6'4" range, with some smaller dynamic ones. Smaller, quicker guards could allow pope to play some trapping defense like st. Johns does. That could result in quick, easy scores. This guy supposedly has a good vertical, which would off set his lack of height. Speed, quickness allow guys to create on their own. It also helps on pressuring the ball.

The proof is always in the pudding. And we don't have a chance to win the Ament bidding war, which is pretty good proof. You have no idea if anyone actually offered him 2 million. And even if they did, the issue here is that so many other schools we're competing against have deeper pockets. This is why Cal left. I'm sure you'll probably never accept that reality but it's absloutely true. Players were taking discounts to play at Kentucky while Cal was here because he had a proven track record of putting guys in the league. And he still couldn't build a team deep enough to compete at the level fans are accustomed to. Hell, we had to give Mark Pope a ridiculous contract to get him to come here and he's a Kentucky boy! That's why. It's hard to win at the level fans expect at Kentucky now.

Personally, I hope they don't spend that much for Ament. He is not Cooper Flagg. He is thin and would have trouble in the SEC. Additionally, I think paying him that much would cause internal problems

I scoured the internet and can't find anywhere Barnhart said there's 4 million annually for NIL. Seems like that would be easy to find if he said it.

Hilarious.

You have no idea what other schools are offering. Why pretend like you do?

Barnhart gave us REAL numbers as in $5.5 million annually, minimum.

What real numbers do you have that suggest other schools are remotely in the same ball park?

Let me guess! Jerry Jones is offering to double anything Pope offers?

:)

No, he didn't. And that's not what you just got through saying he said. I can't even find any source where he said even 4 million annually. I don't need numbers. I have the evidence that players Kentucky wants keep ending up at other schools.

You "scoured the internet, eh?" It took me three seconds to find this article. Go ahead and focus on not finding the word "annually", because, ya know, those same boosters are definitely going to stop giving now that Pope has only created generational excitement within the program. 😂

The teams with a guard core of smaller guys, are the ones that got dominated by teams with bigger, stronger guards.
Vanderbilt pulled off some stunners, but when it came down to it, the teams with a size advantage beat them more times than not.
Yeah, Ziegler and Sears pulled it off, those guys are special, but look what happened when they played Florida. Even Auburn couldn't handle Florida's guards. Those three Florida guards are big, strong kids that get where they want and in a physical league like the SEC, those are the guys you should be looking for.

You can't head off the fact that the word annually isn't anywhere to be seen. You're only doing this to make yourself feel better. It's pretty obvious. You are the most delusional member of this board.

Clayton Jr listed 6’3”, Richard 6’4”.

The way some of you are talking we played teams that had backcourts like 2014 Kentucky
6’6” pg, 6’6” sg, 6’7”

This didn’t come down to size, I trust Pope will find the right guys and diagnose the right issues

So you can confirm that the same boosters who gave Pope $4 million last year are now getting cold feet and won't be contributing that anymore now that the program is at a fever pitch in terms of excitement?

Good logic, I guess, especially if you're just trying to push an anti-Pope narrative without any factual support...

I don't doubt that UK struggles in the nil market. I have no idea, but if it depends on fans to help out, then that is tough. Ky is one of the poorer states, and no corporations.
Ccc left due to the growing animosity toward him by everyone. Otherwise his ego would not allow him to take a job for lesser $. He is too arrogant. No doubt he will have more NIL, until he fails to produce. If ark is so great, why did the prior coach bail to southern cal and struggle.

Brother you don't even understand the concept of what you're speaking about. I'm finished debating you. You were clearly full of sh*t.

I’ve been told that we have a better shot at a couple of elite guards that haven’t entered the portal yet.
Someone was saying somewhere there is a “committed” player already out there somewhere who is an “absolute stud”. I have no idea how true or who it is but it should be a fun summer

LOL, not to take up for Cal, but he was doing this elite recruiting when Pope was still shitting yellow. He is NOT following Pope around. I hope you don't really believe your post. Has to be a joke. Right ??????? If you do not think Cal will land studs from the portal, you obviously are not paying attention. Now that, I CAN believe. One thing Cal does elite, is RECRUIT. He doesn't need to follow Pope. Seems like Arkansas interest came out before UK, maybe Pope is doing what Cal does ???? Nope, they are BOTH trying to land the most talent possible for THEIR teams.
No, Cal is watching who we recruit. That rich sob that pays Cal has said as much. We will pay more than what uk offers. Cal is such a POS

You probably missed the comments from John Tyson last year after they hired Cal. He said they will go after every recruit UK is looking at and trump every NIL offer that UK puts out there.

Also, the days of Cal killing it on the recruiting trail, are over. What he is good at, is making promises and that's not good when the guys you're making promises to, aren't as good as the guys sitting on the bench.

These kids are going pro no matter where they go to school, they don't need Cal and his outdated bullshit, but if you give them cash and playing time promises, you'll get their attention.
Bingo. Nailed it.

People that are paid to know say our NIL is in great shape. I trust them more than you.
Those people are paid to sell the University to fans. All of them. You trusting them is a problem, but I don't really care if you trust me. I've stated exactly why I feel that way. And you should have put it together just like I did. I mean we both started at the same place. I've been a Kentucky fan my entire life. I am just able to face uncomfortable truths and clearly most of you are not.

Send me a link or a quote of the last constructive or positive comment you’ve made. I haven’t seen that once personally. Are you getting paid or trolling for pleasure?

Does any school get everyone they want?
Ccc lost numerous guys he wanted and they supposedly have plenty of $. Wilson went to unc for less than uk offered. Maybe kids just like other places better, playing style, guaranteed playing time

Not the people I’m talking about. They have no affiliation with the University of Kentucky. And I don’t think you have ever been a UK fan . I do believe you were and are a Calipari fan however.

I'm trying to wake all of you Rip Van Winkles up. I derive no pleasure from the misery of others. I have a really great life. I don't need to do that. I have everything I could ever possibly need in life. But I hate this system. I despise being lied to and we are constantly being lied to by everyone involved in Sports. So, what I gain from posting here is helping absolutely anyone come to the same realizations i have. I don't care if it's just one person. To me, it's worth it. All the hate I get. All the accusations of being a fan of some other team. I hate the entire system. Why would I root for another team?

I’m glad you’re here to spread your bundle of joy. Your altruistic motives are easy to discern. Thanks for blessing us with your insights to help out this land of zombies who think the coach did good given the circumstances. I suppose my idiocy disabled me from seeing clearly, but thanks to you, I have awakened…

Farrrrrrrr Pope and rehire Cal!!!!!

It does not matter if anyone has any kind of affiliation directly with Kentucky. Kentucky has a huge fanbase. All the national writers are doing the same thing. And you have no way of knowing what sort of ties people have. All that is behind closed doors. There are a lot of figures being paid by Kentucky that you have no idea about.

So you think the program is destined for mediocrity without CCC? I got news for you the program had become average under CCC. Pope will have UK competing at the top next year.

I have good reason to be self-aware enough to acknowledge my own ignorance, friend. I am, however, not quite foolish enough to continue running perfect circles with you. Good day!
