Agbim enters portal

Why him this is the first time, I'm hearing anything about this kid? I want Pope to go after the best players in the World. Kentucky is not BYU or Utah Valley. I want tough kids that are ballers and will fight on every possession. We need dawgs and sharp-shooters. I believe Pope will get the type of players he wants in his system!
He is a proven, top notch guard. Cast a wide net, get on them early, progress as their interest dictates. He will not be the ONLY gaurd UK gauges interest on.

What Pope does, Cal does.
LOL, not to take up for Cal, but he was doing this elite recruiting when Pope was still shitting yellow. He is NOT following Pope around. I hope you don't really believe your post. Has to be a joke. Right ??????? If you do not think Cal will land studs from the portal, you obviously are not paying attention. Now that, I CAN believe. One thing Cal does elite, is RECRUIT. He doesn't need to follow Pope. Seems like Arkansas interest came out before UK, maybe Pope is doing what Cal does ???? Nope, they are BOTH trying to land the most talent possible for THEIR teams.

You are really going to need to adjust your expectations to line up with our new reality.

Exaclty....that should be an easy Pope...Come to UK and be main guard or Arkansas be behind his HS 5* kids.
See Johnell Davis for proof, kid. Davis was putrid while Boogie Fland was being a ball hog. Davis didn’t do much of anything until Fland got hurt.

Idk. Kid looks incredible obviously and he'll do great here!

BUT- if we take this kid, we're still going to be really lacking in elite, SEC-caliber size on the perimeter.

This kid is generously listed at 6'3 (he isn't), and is only 180 pounds.

Jasper Johnson is listed at 6'4 (generously), 175 pounds.

Acaden Lewis is 6'2, 170.

Travis Perry is 6'1, 180.

Auburn this year started 6'4, 6'6 and 6'7 on the perimeter.

Florida only started 6'2, 6'4 and 6'4, but they are big, strong, physical, stocky guards (especially Martin and Richards), all over 200 pounds.

Not sure going into next season with Oweh as our only real "physical", SEC-Caliber presence on the perimeter is the way to go.

We all agreed this season throughout the year that we were lacking in elite SEC size to be paired with the perimeter skill.

Just not sure taking another kid in this mold really fixes that problem.

So true! We only have $6 to $8 million in NIL to work with! How will we attract good players!?!?

:)
So do you, but I have absolutely zero confidence you have the ability. You will be the last person on this board to come to grips with where we are now as a program. You have no idea if those numbers (which are two million dollars apart! ha ha) are accurate or how many years that amount would be meant to cover. If we had as much money as you think we have to spend, we wouldn't have missed on so many guys we wanted in the portal this past period. But I'm sure you've got complete amnesia regarding that. Just keep lying to yourself so that reality bites you even harder.

Alabama was starting 6’1” Sears next to generously listed 6’4” Philon. Having versatility at those positions is more important than sheer size imo

I'm with Nail and ITVI, can we get Smith and Agbim both for next year? :)

somehow, someway, whomever Coach Pope gets to come, it's going to end up putting us as a top 10 (possibly even top 5) pre-season next year.

That's my prediction.

I think Coach Pope and Kentucky will be a HOT HOT HOT destination for portal players. Lots of hype for next year by the time Pope finishes putting together NEXT year's team.

Regarding the last portal period, we had to significantly overpay because of unfamiliarity with coaching staff and no roster. Won’t be the same this year

Really wish, Runt. Texas Tech front runners apparently.

I think it’s much more important that the guards and wings be versatile and be able to switch on the perimeter

Yeah but you can't take an entire backcourt of guys that size.

Bama went and got Chris Youngblood from the portal who is bigger than Oweh, and a few other guys who are bigger and longer and more versatile.

If their entire backcourt was guys 6'1 or 6'2 and 180 pounds, they would really struggle. But that isn't Bama's reality.

Youngblood is the same height as Oweh and within ten pounds of the same weight. Our biggest issue wasn’t size this year imo. It was lateral speed, quickness, depth and versatility.

Right, and this kid can't do that. At least not successfully. Neither can Lewis. Jasper might be able to, but 180 pounds switching onto 6'6 and 6'7 SFs who outweigh them by 40 pounds is not a recipe for success.

Literally all season long we have talked about lacking elite level SEC athletes with the size and athleticism to really take us to another level.

And then we go out and just load up on a bunch of 170-180 pound little guys because they can get buckets?

Give me a guy or two like Dalton Knecht, Terrence Shannon, Chaz Lanier, Kadary Richmond, etc., - bigger, stronger guards who are ALSO incredibly skilled.

Houston seems to do it every year.

Right, but that's my point, they went out and got more guys like Oweh to pair with their smaller guards, they didn't go get more smaller guards. Bama went out and got different types of pieces to be able to play different styles.

You are advocating for just getting 4 or 5 of the same size and skill type player, which limits our versatility. Go get another guy or two like Oweh! Bigger, stronger, more versatile guards who can defend multiple positions and be effective in different spots, not a bunch of small guards who will get physically outmatched in every SEC game next year.

If our perimeter lineup next year is Perry, Lewis, Johnson, Oweh and Agbim, we are going to get physically outclassed every single night.

I think he could a little bit there’s also a chance they get another butler type guard and agbim and rotate the 5 guards

Think some lines got crossed somewhere. I’m certainly not advocating to stockpile tiny players I’m not sure where that came from. If you had the ability to get Agbim and Smith you absolutely do take both (that won’t happen)

Fair enough, maybe lines did get crossed.

I'm not saying not to take this kid.

BUT, I am saying, if you take this kid, you need to have a plan to go out and get at least 2 other perimeter players who are bigger, stronger & more versatile.

Perry, Lewis, Johnson, Oweh and Agbim is not a lineup that will hold up against some of the more elite SEC backcourts from a size and versatility standpoint.

You probably missed the comments from John Tyson last year after they hired Cal. He said they will go after every recruit UK is looking at and trump every NIL offer that UK puts out there.

Also, the days of Cal killing it on the recruiting trail, are over. What he is good at, is making promises and that's not good when the guys you're making promises to, aren't as good as the guys sitting on the bench.

These kids are going pro no matter where they go to school, they don't need Cal and his outdated bullshit, but if you give them cash and playing time promises, you'll get their attention.

Yes
With the way Pope wants to play, quickness, speed and shooting ability are more important than bulk, size, especially at the guard and small forward spots.
