Just heard that on the Tom Leach show. Sounded like this had been previously discussed, so this might not be news to some of you. Was to me.

There was a thread about this a week or two ago. So, had heard this - but didn't know which point in time. If this was when we hired Cal, that makes it especially silly. Knight was about 200 years past his prime by then, and it was likely just an effort to poke IU in the eyeballs.

The 2nd reason that he hates UK, with the first being Joe B. beating his undefeated team. After all the crap he has given UK over the years, he must really have some brass to think the University would hire him to lead our basketball program.

Bully Bobby's bombastic behavior makes Coach Rupp look like Mother Teresa (and that's saying a lot).

After Mitch hired Gillispie, every drunk with coaching experience probably thought they had a shot at the job.

Anybody think Mitch considered it until someone intervened? Probably not, but talk about media attention!

Knight always was out of touch with reality. He had convinced himself he was beyond reproach and did not have to answer to anyone. He got away with it for a long time at IU. A good friend of mine was a huge Bobby Knight fan. My friend went to an open practice at IU on a Saturday. A lot of fans (women and children included along with a couple top shelf recruits) were present. Said Knight was cussing and throwing out the F bombs like no one was in the stands. He couldn't believe it. Both recruits ended up signing with IU. Parents said their sons needed the discipline. Believe it was Edwards and ??? - both from the state of Indiana.

His best player was out injured, remember that or he would have won 4 titles in an 11 year span.

Probably Lyndon Jones

I would have been fine with it if he was only here for two years instead of Gillispie and spent a good amount of time choking people from Rafters.

He doesn't limit that to practice. Heard several stories about him cussing like a sailor in front of kids and the public at Pro-Am golf tournaments. Just a crude, angry guy.

I find that so hard to believe actually. Just unimaginable IMO
I really don't believe that, I just don't. He HATES UK, always has. If he HAD, for some unreal reason, gotten the job, some lunatic UK fan would have probably assassinated him, lol.

Nope, nobody was going to beat UCLA after Wooden announced his retirement.
They were undefeated and that team was supposedly better than the 76 team. So I've been told anyways I hadn't been born yet. And coach knight was and is a total ego maniac that thinks he's the reincarnation of General Patton but the man knew bball as well as anyone in the world. You have to admit though if you had gotten him for five or so years those would have been some entertaining years. Plus if he had gone there he would have been rejuvenated and would have recruited harder than he probably ever had. It wouldn't have surprised me if he would have won a championship there. He would have wanted it so bad just to give the IU administration the middle finger.

He and Pitino got along great, and probably still do. I don't think he had any problems with Tubby, either. Once we hired Cal after he had reached out, he hated everything to do with us. I remember a Rick Reilly tweet one time "So what happens if Bob Knight says the word Kentucky? Does his head fall off or something?"

What I am saying is John Wooden was going to retire as National Champion, no team was going to beat them, it was going to be 8 on 5.

The former President of the Alumni Association told me just before UK hired Pitino that Bob Knight had been in discussions with C.M. Newton about the UK job. Knight and C.M. used to be good friends so there's probably some truth to it. Apparently, Knight had a great recruiting year and was no longer interested. Hard to imagine Bob Knight coaching UK.

Billy Reed once did a story on Knight growing up a UK fan, listening to Cawood call our games as a kid.

No way Knight would've even gotten a sniff at being head coach. :joy::joy::joy:
All I'm going to say is Mitch thought he had a done deal with Parcells, so....having these 2 at the same school? We would be more hated than ever imagined.
