Acaden Lewis de-commits

Maybe we get involved with the Green kid from Holy Cross. These High School kids at least most will not be worth the investment.

Maybe he can commit to UNC and have sleepovers on Caleb Wilson's bunkbed. They can make dance videos on Tik-Tok, eat some mint chocolate chip ice cream, and gossip about all the pretty little Chapel Hill co-eds, giggling like the good little wenches they are.
With matching jammies?

Pope still needs to prove he can recruit top high school kids (not based in KY). Has yet to do it

If Lowe does not come here, will Lewis 100% stay here?

I do not think so now...

Maybe he never is all-in for UK...

Just a sign of the times we’ll all have to get used to. We can all speculate on the kids motives and intentions and it’s probably a combo of several factors.

I think we can all agree it’s good he did this now rather than later. Also think we’d rather have a player committed to the program and willing to compete and EARN playing time and not have it handed to him. Time to move on.

You say that but I’ll say it again — if you want to win titles you have to have talent and continuity. Can’t be just one, gotta be both. Yes, it is harder to retain players than it used to be but that’s the game you have to play
Probably need to identify and avoid players with parents that involved that you want to retain and develop.

Not surprised at all, this is happening everywhere. I commend Pope for going for the best roster possible next year. These players now don't hesitate to jump and the coaches have to be just as cold. Lewis is not a starting level player on a title contending team, simple as that. If he does not want 15 mpg, contend, and develop....so be it.

Also, a lot our fans want to speculate on these extremely deep rosters. That is highly unlikely. Last year was a fluke, if we can get a quality 10 with one development and Perry that is ideal.

NIL has helped teams with quality depth. Especially teams that play a lot of guys. Highly rated high school guys are a legit gamble especially at the guard position. It is a critical position in college. No way Pope could avoid not getting a veteran PG.

It is equally as dicey at the SG/SF there are 2-3 legit options at that spot. Trent is also there. Also depends where they are playing the kids for Tulane and Alabama. Are they PF’s?

Bottom line the next commit someone will get squeezed unless it is a true PF. At this point he has sacrificed shooting for athletes. He needs a shooter with the next commit and they may force someone else’s hand.

I was busy yesterday and didn't keep up. Was there any smoke to him leaving before the announcement? I thought checking RR a couple times a day gave you all the Intel about the team. :)

No ... this hit pretty much everyone out of the blue.

Saw this coming but didn't want to be a downer.. you can't add the guards and wings we did last week and expect the keep the current roster/recruits happy.

We all know the reason, and he needs to stay close to home so I’m assuming Maryland is making a deal with him

I have read many posts on here from fans saying how players deserved to be paid and all that and while I agree to a point with them being paid, it now seems players have all the power.
You tell me anything else we do where you can just back out of an agreement when you want, do what you want, get paid only to start looking for a higher bidder and there be no consequences at all ?

You just can not sign an agreement in business and just quit when you want, come back and say I found a cheaper bid after you signed a deal.
When this shit happens, players must have some sort of penalty.
Imagine you are a store owner, order a truck load of goods for the upcoming holiday and when the truck pulls up, the driver says to you, 'sorry, we found someone to pay more for our goods".
Sorry BBN , I am an old SOB who believes in a contract, being loyal, a handshake still means something to me. So, Mr. Lewis, goodbye and I hope you have a shitty career because life will one day come back to bite you.

First, I wish Lewis stayed at UK. He’s going to be a good player.

But, here’s reality of modern college basketball. Good/great teams are led by older guards. (Just look at SEC this year.) You can sprinkle in some young players, but older guards dominated the league and the tourn.

Here’s 2nd reality. It’ll be difficult to bring in another quality PG. Lowe was brought in to start. Chandler had tremendous improvement throughout season. Perry is serviceable in spot minutes. Jasper wants to play some PG. Very few incoming players want to fight that log jam.

I’m guessing spot gets filled with a stretch 4.
Yeah, I don't know what 2025/26 is going to be like, but this last season was ridiculous. If you were a freshman in 24/25, especially in the SEC, you needed to be an absolute specemin to consistently compete at a high level against the veterans the SEC threw out there.
Unless you spent your adolescent years in a weight room and at basketball camps, you were in trouble. You have to have high quality veterans these days, or you're going nowhere.

The other thing is, lewis was the 35th ranked player on 247. It sucks to lose him but it was rather unlikely he was going to give us consistent production this season. And with the transfer portal the way it is, he coould have very well been an up and down player all season, only to bolt after 1 year for another school.

Not really concerned about this one.

Also looks like he was busted nearly a decade ago for an even more bizarre situation:

https://dcist.com/story/16/07/20/dc-man-pleaded-guilty-to-impersonat/
So he was hired to be the Finance Director of a non-profit shortly after he already had this felony fraud conviction? Yeesh …and we wonder why DC is such a mess.

Sounds like his dad is a looney con man of the worst sort. Yet it seems he had a lot of us fooled too, judging by past threads like this:

Wrong. Wish Pope nothing but success. I’m loyal to the soil. And he’s one of us.

I disagree with the philosophy of preferring transfer portal players with lower ceilings to top end high school talent. It’s shortsighted.
If Lewis had a higher ceiling, he would have gotten the playing time he deserved, Pope proved that this year.

He recruits just as hard in the HS ranks as he does in the portal, but these kids are different these days and they want to go be the man somewhere and they want 3-5 million to do it.

Pope is trying to build a team, but these young kids don't care about team concepts, they want to be catered to and they don't want competition.
