Aberdeen to UK!

Our old friend is laughable again
He makes himself look so dumb every single time. I love it because he’s a joke and has been for a long time. Now he’s getting roasted and he is telling everyone how much Aberdeen sucks and that Griffen is way better. Calling everyone fat and sluts now. What a clown. 🤡

The only part that might be incorrect is what Kentucky ended up paying him. Everything else is known. But not trying to argue, congrats on the pick up.

Though I do not recall last year figures for Martin or Clayton, I am aware of the specific figures on both sides for Aberdeen. Florida offered less than market value.
Kentucky did, but was not his highest offer.

I’ve heard about the 96 team my whole life. It’s always been “ that’s by far the best college team to ever exist “ so I will be happy to see something similar one day. The Wisconsin year probably wipes that team out if they brought that championship home but they didn’t so I’m still waiting.
You never watched the 96 team? That's what I take from your post anyway.
So, what's the '96' at the end of your screen name? Birth year?

Is Florida gonna pivot to the Australian guard now? Or do they have somebody else

How is Purdue ranked ahead of us? I know they have Braden Smith and he's really good but who else do they have? I understand Houston being ahead because Sampson has built a well oiled machine there. But Purdue?

I believe Fletcher Loyer and Kaufman-Renn are coming back too, but that's without looking.

They must be stout, because everyone has them either 1 or 2. I'll believe it when I see it.

We’re f***ing stacked! Huge p/u…LFG!
We are for sure but (and I promise I’m not trying to be a negative Nancy cause I’m giddy about who we have) but I always get uneasy when we seem to have too many guys to rotate and

1. Keep happy
2. Build cohesiveness

But I also trust Pope enough to know he wouldn’t keep adding guys without a plan.

Nah, the 96 Cats would not only overwhelm you with talent but they would absolutely run you to death as in teams worn out in the first half trying to catch their wind. Plus, they would press when pressing wasn’t even a go to move. Back then Ricky was ahead of his time in how he had the Cats playing. Just a completely different animal.

IMO

What was he asking UF? Is that why he left UF? $$$$?

Twitter rumors were he wanted 2 mil. Want and get are two different things. We definitely didn't pay that because we could've had Wilkerson for that price. Guessing 1-1.25.

Pope is great at finding value. He has a price he wants to pay and gets the best guy for the money. The only guy he really overpaid was jj.

Anybody that watched the FF this year knows this was a HUGE pickup. The kid eats pressure, how many guys can come off the bench and play like he did. I am ecstatic with this addition

He asked for more money than we paid Alijah Martin this year and more money than we paid Clayton Jr last year. We offered him more than we paid Alijah. Seems like a fair offer to me. I would think that UK had to probably give him close to that 2 mill
He probably benefitted from us losing out on Wilkerson.

Sounds like Gators being salty and making excuses for why they are losing a key piece off their title team honestly.

He absolutely left bc UF prioritized spending on an incoming guard and assumed they’d retain their current roster for an incumbent discount.

But the “this will likely be his highest paid year as a basketball player” comment is passive aggressive shade.

It’s also not been a secret that Pope and staff haven’t offered outrageous money in other examples when it could have swayed a player.
I dont see any saltiness. I've seen dozens of well wishes and understandable explanations. The same "excuses" HERE are found on the UF board. Its not excuses but explaining likely causes of the transfer.

Maybe that saltiness is what you want instead of....ya' know... reality.

They got an Oscar Cluff to help out TKR in the post and bring back everyone of note from their sweet 16 team. They will be good.

No way. If uk paid that, they would've just paid Wilkerson.

Keep in mind asking for and getting are two different things. Also keep in mind nil went through the roof this year for everyone, so there cant be an expectation to pay him what someone made last year, even though i get why fans might feel that way.

Just a wag but i think uk paid him 1-1.25. Dont get me wrong, thats alot, but i also think its a decent value in THIS market. I think uk got some discount because Florida is losing alot and uf probably didn't see him worth it based on production, which isnt wrong, but hopefully short sighted based on what he could/should become.

Prices went up quite a bit since last year, players expected to start go for 2 million or more this portal season, probably will be 2.5 or more next portal season depending on what the judge does about NIL etc.

Thrilled that we got him! Seems like he has a very high motor and reminds me a tiny bit of MKG on his highlight tape. Only knock I see is that he seems a bit out of control at times, but it's huge for us that he can play any of the 1-2-3 positions.

Aberdeen was the 22nd ranked combo guard in the 2022 class behind other former/current UK players, Cason Wallace (2), Collin Chandler (6), and Adou Thiero (20).

Matt Painter......
Meh, if it was about the coach, Rick Pitino would start out every season in the top 2 or 3.

Never been impressed with MP, any coach would win a lot of games with a 7'3" giant at center, but not many coaches are bad enough to lose to a 16 seed with said giant on the team.

Forget Wilkerson, Kentucky and Mark Pope got the best player in Aberdeen. You can't compare someone from Sam Houston State, a losing team with a 10-19 overall record and 6-12 in a weak conference to a man who will have an NCAA Championship ring on his finger.

Aberdeen was a very important member of the Gators team and will be sorely missed. We had him as a starter for next year. He could have started on 95% of all college teams this year. Kentucky is getting a winner and someone Florida would take back in a heartbeat.

Good luck to the young man. He is a class act and excellent basketball player. I am observing Coach Mark Pope from a distance but I can see with open eyes Mark Pope is doing one hell of a job and will have the Cats at the very top.

Wilkerson realized he was not going to be anything special at UK because of the overall talent level. Thus, he chose Indiana to make himself standout, because they have no talent.
