So think about it…we haven’t had a real tournament game in 3 years. Last year’s mask filled SEC tournament was some BS…it’s real this year.
The last time we had March Madness? We were worried about Reid Travis’ injury and PJ Washington’s toe. We wondered if Hagans was going to get it right. Tyler Herro was a bucket. Chris Mack was in his first year. We didn’t know if Nick Richards could make it at this level of play…Quickley was a bench player. We begged for Jemar Baker minutes. Auburn broke out hearts..
2020 was a redemption year. We won the SEC by 3 games. We had the best backcourt in the land. We had 1 freshman in our starting 5. Keion Brooks, Juzang, and EJ Montgomery were hitting their stride. Hagans was due to come back healthier and rested after his break. Then…it was all stolen.
We lost everything. We got stuck inside. We lost loved ones. We had our country get even more divisive….but then the 2021 season was terrible. We were historically bad. We couldn’t even sellout Rupp or go to the games….we lost to Louisville. We saw Quickley and Maxey take off in the NBA and Juzang take UCLA to the Final Four, reminding us of what 2020 could’ve been. We lost Terrence Clarke to a tragedy that put it all in perspective.
2021-22? We’ve been back. Cal made staff changes and brought home coach O. We had players return. We have older experienced guys. We still have talented freshman. We’ve been elite…we’ve dominated at home….we cleaned house in Kansas. It’s been fun…
And now here we are…the time of the year we all wait for in this Bluegrass State. Something we haven’t had since that OT loss to Auburn….we have March Madness. We have fans. We have a team that’s gonna compete for the title.
The BBN Will takeover all arenas. We’ll pace nervously all work week. We’ll all be at friends/family homes or out in bars screaming at TV. It’s gonna be fun again…
After this long long time….remember to enjoy it folks. These last 2 years have made me realize that it’s not about 40-0 and a title every year, it’s about the love of this team and this state. Cal has brought us so many special players and memories and I’m going to appreciate it even more now….
