How in the world Texas AM revolts at the thought of Mark Stoops but accepts Dan Elko from Duke is beyond all logic.

Maybe....there wasn't a revolt. Maybe the theory A&M offered Stoops the job, he accepted, but the Aggies took it away because 12thMan74168 on Twitter said he was disappointed - is complete bullshit.
Maybe the reality is a&m offered him the job, he turned it down, so they had to go to plan B (or C or D, however far down Stoops was) who is demonstrably a worst coach

My first instinct is to believe...that Stoops didn't turn them down as at this point he should not even have to flirt around and that Texas AM had to pull the offer.
But to accept Elko.....makes me think maybe it happened as you stated above.
College jobs are a crazy world that Elko gets this kind of job along with Sunbelt Billy at Florida....crazy stuff.
