I believe there is a hearing on April 7th that is going to corral some of this. I don't know all the details of it, but these kids are trying to get deals done before the 7th, which makes sense. Is it too late to get a handle on NIL? Something that once would get a school is major trouble has blown completely up. These kids are no longer college students playing for a scholarship, they are hired professional athletes playing for a university. Many are making more than all of the NBA players made not that long ago. I truly believe NIL will ruin college athletics as we know it.
I can tell you boys aren't from the south because you didn't mention Community coffee.Whoa, that’s some old school brands right there. Surprised you didn’t drop some Sanka in there too.
Chock full of nuts as well.I can tell you boys aren't from the south because you didn't mention Community coffee.
The only way to do that is to make players employees of the universities and the administrators of those universities absolutely do not want to do that. The only way forward is for college teams to function like semi-professional club teams do in Europe. Players need to have contracts and some sort of cba to ensure there is some consistency from year to year. I couldn't imagine trying to put together a team with the uncertainty in the current era.
You outdid yourself with this one. Goodness lol
Probably not for the amounts they command, but they could fall under a work/study program of some sort. The only way to do that is to make players employees of the universities and the administrators of those universities absolutely do not want to do that.
If true, it still helps. 1.) You force another program to spend big money so they can’t outbid you on other prospects. 2.) You get to see what the NIL budgets for rival schools are more accurately. Enjoy the process, even the “losses” have a little bit of “win” to them. It’s a complicated game with a lot of moving parts.I don't I buy Smith leaving Purdue, maybe driving up the price they have to pay.
It's going to seek it's own level. It's out of control right now. The NCAA is afraid to act. There's some upcoming court cases that are going to be major in the NIL arena. I believe the first one is next Monday? Might be wrong on the date. But it's soon.Is it too late to get a handle on NIL? He deleted it hahaPurdue backed up the Brinks truck
Braden not entering portalThe tweet is gone, apparently. What did it say?
BYU 2 studs and a decent team come back. They can afford it
The report from TOS was Purdue will have to back up Brinks truck to keep him from entering the portalBraden not entering portal
What is TOS?The report from TOS was Purdue will have to back up Brinks truck to keep him from entering the portal
“The other site”What is TOS?
I’m sure they will/would.The report from TOS was Purdue will have to back up Brinks truck to keep him from entering the portal
The #1 pick earns 10.47 million in the first year so he would be an idiot to stay at Duke for 5 million. It's going to seek it's own level. It's out of control right now. The NCAA is afraid to act. But college athletics has been ruined for decades. It's just there for more to see now. They aren't making anywhere near NBA money though. Not even a drop in the bucket. There's rumors that Cooper Flagg could command up to $5 mil to stay another year at Duke. But even his coach says he would be crazy to return.
There's a lot of handwringing over nothing. No one is being forced to pay NIL monies. And UK will not lose a player over money.
Probably will. No one should let a AA hit the door.I’m sure they will/would.
Just so you know, report that Braden almost certainly isn’t leaving Purdue. We can probably put that one to rest at this point. On to the nextWhat is TOS?
Who put it out? Wouldn’t surprise me like I’ve said many times I never believed the rumor and even if he did hit the portal it’s a long battle to Lexington.Purdue backed up the Brinks truck
Idk. But report that he is almost certainly not portaling. It was reported ahead of time that Purdue would have to open the bank to keep him, so two and twoWho put it out?
Mid April means nothing, he could easily get paid for that and bolt in the fall though. I believe he stays but that wouldn’t have any effect IMO.He posted his basketball camp for mid-April in West Laffayette. He's staying. There's been chatter from basically all the KY insiders and the Trilly discord for weeks. The smoke was there. I definitely believe Kentucky was doing their best legal channel reaching out to let him know we would pay him a crap ton.
The hard part on this--I feel like Donovan Dent stings so much more now.
I don't think that is necessarily the case. Teams would need to create separate corporate structures for each team and then license the naming rights from the schools, leagues, and NCAA. Athletes would then be able to unionize, have a cba, and be paid as professionals. The only way to do that is to make players employees of the universities and the administrators of those universities absolutely do not want to do that.
Sounds about right. My opinion, there was some leveraging going on with his agent to ensure a big payday for his last season. But I believe there was some legitimacy to the rumors of possibility, only it was never going to actually materialize.Travis Graf saying that Smith will not enter the portal
So no Smith or Demary.Sounds about right. My opinion, there was some leveraging going on with his agent to ensure a big payday for his last season. But I believe there was some legitimacy to the rumors of possibility, only it was never going to actually materialize.
