Great memories. People rightfully acknowledge that a healthy Anderson gives us the title that year, but I think that even if Allen Edwards had been 100%, we would have taken down Arizona. Edwards wasn't even half the player he had been earlier in the year after he went down with an injury.
Was there for this and in 94(beat the hogs) when the tournament was at the Pyramid. Loved that arena. As you entered there was a popular Memphis bbq joint selling platters with 1/2 rack ribs, potato salad, baked beans and maybe a roll for like $9

Tubby did us a favor that year, taking out SC in the semis after SC had beaten us twice.

Man I forget how much I loved that press. Basketball felt so free flowing then compared to the mug ball that is 2025.
Man, what a throwback. Tubby had us rolling. Would have been interesting to see what we would have been had he stayed for a while. Same with Harrick. Damn you, Tony Cole.
DA could’ve played. It was stated that he was the best player in practice in the days leading up to that game. He didn’t play because he had presumably talked to an agent and playing would’ve been a no no. That’s what I remember.
My initial reaction after watching that video — Koby Brea would have averaged 25 points per game in 1997. Mercer and Epps could actually use off ball screens as God intended, i.e., without being grabbed or hip checked every time down the court.
That press was a thing of beauty. I need that energy again here.

Funny story about Epps. We were playing Marion County in football on Anthony Epps night. First play of the game I picked off a hitch and go and was returning back for a touchdown and I pointed at Epps while I was running down their sideline. He called me a bitch clear as day and the rest of the game when I lined up over there on their sideline Epps told me him and his boys were gonna tune me up after the game. I was scared shitless. We were up 70-0 early in the 4th quarter and he thankfully went to the gym and started playing basketball. I could tell he wasn't one to mess with. Still one of my fondest memories though lol.
