at some point the coaching staff and people on this forum have to realize how small this team is. They play even smaller. Not only that Briscoe makes it 4-5 in a half court game. Not to mention the liability that is his free throw shooting. Practically anyone is a better fit.

While i agree, we just dont have a guard on the bench good enough or has stepped up.

IMO Mulder has the potential to steal Briscoe's mins due to his shooting range, but Cal obviously doesnt trust him.

Mulder would fit in perfectly w/ our starting lineup + add even more shooting, which has improved dramatically since Willis' been inserted into the starting lineup.

I have always wondered after some playing time Mulder received and he was doing fairly well if Cal would try him again since he is deadly at shooting the 3. Briscoe did go 5-12 shooting with a 3 for 11 points. Its just when he tries a 3 or drives to the basket and gets fouled and has to shoot FT's. Briscoe seems to be more comfortable from the 12-15ft range when shooting.

I had high hopes for Mulder and perhaps more playing time would help. But so far he has only shot for 20% from the three and his overall FG % is even worse than that.

Mulder is shooting 20% from three. That's hardly deadly.

Yes Briscoe doesn't shoot well but all other aspects of his game is very good. Defends, rebounds, handles the ball and passes very well. Not to mention he gets to the rim and finishes very well.

Another post like what makes you think Willis can shoot. Mulder can shoot anyone who knows basketball knows that. With him at the 3 Ulis and Murray would have lanes.
Another alternative would be to go big.

I agree he is an excellent finisher for a guard, and does get to the rim. He's a liability when he get fouled. He has to make free throws. I think his defense is overrated.

Prime example of how people only see offense lol.
Briscoe is the single best guard cal has had at getting to the rim. It's really impressive.
He shot the ball fairly good in high school I suspect he will get better with time

Good enough fit to beat your Cards.

Wow, whoever started the myth about Briscoe's driving ability deserves a medal.

It is not elite. Guy struggles to beat his defender off the bounce every game, yet fans are saying he;s the best driver in the cal era? Hilarious.

For whatever reason every time briscoe shoots a jumper i am all for it since hes open, and then he misses and i wonder why i was excited he was confident in shooting.

Well briscoe was out for the UL game but he is worthy of being on the court. He just needs to stop taking jump shots except 1 or 2 a game. If he makes it , then let him shoot another time

When posters suggest they are smarter than Cal, I remind myself how stupid the internet can be.

Sorry but this is not the smartest post either. Guess you fall into the category that calipari can do no wrong, every button he pushes is the correct one.

Many/some on this board were saying Willis needed to see the floor more, it would help spread the floor and open up driving lanes for Ulis and Murray and briscoe. Willis, it was argued would also add another perimeter shooter that was desperately needed. Your comment about people thinking they are smarter than cal was posted by others (maybe even yourself) with that dialogue. So were the posters right or wrong in that instance?

Now this doesn't suggest that anyone is smarter than cal but there are people who don't coach for a living that know the game and can see things that could potentially help the team.

I don't think briscoe should be playing as many minutes as he is. He is too big of an offensive liability. He can drive to the rim and finish, he is very good at that and is an excellent defender but that doesn't warrant 30-35 minutes a game IMO when you have Hawkins on the bench. Hawkins plays defense just as well and shoots the ball immensely better (don't care about percentages). He doesn't rebound as well or drive as well though.

Mulder got extended game time at LSU and was one of the few bright spots we had. He has not been given the time on the floor briscoe had or perhaps he would be shooting better and given this team yet another perimeter threat. We may never know on that one.

Uh...no. Only Jesus is perfect. And Cal himself admits he makes mistakes.

But reading your post, I have to know: is there room in your mind that you might be making a mistake?

I think you are trying to be a azz & doing a good job at it.

Just don't look good who start if Lee is still hurt, Poythress & Willis out for who know when.

have made many one of which was not pursuing a coaching career more vigorously. Not even sure what your suggesting I might be making a mistake on, I did nothing but merely give opinions on what I have been able to see from watching games.

Questioning coaching decisions is as old as the game itself, no reason to think any poster thinks they are smarter than the coach themselves. Many components go into coaching so to question one aspect whether it be their defensive or offensive philosophy or playing this player or that player over another is hardly anyone thinking they are smarter. It's merely conjecture!!

In an away game vs a top 25 RPI team... Briscoe scored 11 pts 6 rbs and 3 assists. he went 5-12 shooting with no free throw attempts.

Was there 2-3 shots that he should of passed up? Probably.... but bashing him after putting up that stat line is absurd.

when willis started rebounding and stopped being lazy/inattentive on defense, he began to play more. now he starts

you & your ilk don't get to completely elide that on the way to self-congratulations

Me and my ilk? Whatever dude. It is hard to rebound and play defense when you are picking splinters out of your ass. There is no self congratulations at all but turns out Willis has done exactly for our team what many said he would/could do.
