Started Monday with Fox announcement and Cal following it with his social media promoting Fox. Today was monk and same marketing from Cal.

I just think we get 1 each day this week. Bam, Briscoe and then either WG or IH.

I think it's more likely that Fox did not want Rothstein (or anyone) to report he was hiring an agent. Hence the tweet "who confirmed that?" He deleted the tweet, I'm guessing, because Rothstein doubled down on the report (said 'sources' so he had good info) and just decided to go ahead and make it official. When that happened, any plans for doing a group announcement like UK has done in the past basically went out of the window and so Monk just decided to go today.

I'm just basing it on day 1 and day 2 of this week. We know Cal likes to time things, market, etc. So I'm just assuming 1 a day for the week.

I don't see how a player having an announcement day for a transfer would be good marketing for the program.

It's also being handled a little differently due to the massive roster turnover UK faces this year compared to last. Cal is out recruiting and doesn't have time to be holding one mass press conference--and he likely wanted to show the recruits he's involved with (specifically the guards) that minutes are there. I mean he now can show that Fox, Monk, Hawkins, Mulder are gone--and if Briscoe does as expected and follows suit--then you have an empty backcourt.

Now I'll say this--if I were Cal, the ideal end to this class is:

1. Bamba
2. Cameron Johnson--give me the experienced guy for 2 years on Wing who can shoot
3. One of these guards who can shoot the ball--Baker, Smith, etc.....

I love Kevin Knox and believe me if he were to choose UK, it's a great move--but for next year's team I specifically prefer the experienced transfer-and it fills two criteria that Cal has mentioned--it's not taking from a mid major program, and he'd be at UK for 2 years-not one-so it's basically like a JC transfer. Cal will know a ton about the kid seeing he helped recruit the kid's father to Pitt (Gilbert Johnson) and ties to hometown/city.

Just my two cents. And from what I've been told--Bam is GONE. I also laugh that Chad Ford had Bam move up in his Mock Draft released today after the inaccurate and opinion based information he put out last week.

I agree completely. One could argue given what we need Johnson fills the need/role better than Knox.

Only Fox and Monk have any business going pro.
Bam needs another year.
If Briscoe wants to get paid, he better move to Europe.

NBA value isn't based so much on what kids have already done but rather on what they might do. Remember that and you will understand why marginally successful players leave early.

Why would the transfer be here for 2 years?

Why would the transfer be here for 2 years?

Kid is graduating early--has 2 years of eligibility left--it's a completely different scenario then what Cal has spoken out against regarding "grad transfers". He also knows the young man's father from being on staff at Pitt when Gilbert Johnson (Cameron's dad) was playing. This is more of a JC transfer type of thing--only from a big school from a major conference.

Who leaves early to go to the D-League? Life as a UK player is much more luxurious than that of a D-League player.

According to "insiders" he's more likely to go to the D league or overseas than to play another season at Kentucky.

Could Gilbert Johnson ball?

I agree with this, except I could see Bam going, he has an NBA body and plays hard. I can easily see him going and would understand .
But Briscoe? I have a big problem with him leaving. Where the hell is he going? Definitely not the NBA. If guys like Briscoe, Teague and Lamb are going to jump just to go to the D-League or Europe than we have a culture issue at UK. Guys evidently feel like this is early departure U and that's just wrong.

I understand they are coming here for Cal and what he can do for them, but starting over with a new team every year because non NBA guys departed early, really sucks.

I know we criticize UNC***, Duke* and KU for "holding their guys back" (eyeroll), but this is college still isn't it? Why are we criticizing other programs for kids staying in school?

I'm more than cool with Davis, MKG, Wall, Cuz, Randle and Townes leaving early, I also love the decision Liggins made, he had to go (after his JUNIOR year) as he REALLY needed the money, but non first round guys leaving early is stupid to me. The D-League and European leagues will be there after you graduate.

You need veterans to win titles, Cal is great, but when the lights are at their brightest, freshmen crumble, even sophomores can crumble as the pressure is immense. Heck, look at the two teams that won the title this year, good free throw shooting teams that bricked freebies all game long, both teams showed some choke Monday night and they were senior laden teams.

In my opinion, if Briscoe leaves we are too young next year to really be a true contender. Again, where's he going? Stick with Cal, nobody will push you more.

And it makes no sense, unless I'm missing. Is it a rule that you have to leave college early to play in those leagues?
It's out of hand, jumping early to go to Europe is ridiculous to me. What happens if you blow a knee out and can't play ever again? Sure would have been nice to have a degree to fall back on. Yeah, you can go back to school, but now you're 2 years behind.

The informative versus the speculative always results with the informative winning out.
Thanks for clearing things up. I can see clearly now. Too much rabbit chasing going on.

I would think Johnson would have to sit out a year and would not be eligible next year.

BAM should go now. Too risky to attempt another college year if you can go now, and pretty high up. One injury could keep you out for good.

He can make a good living developing his skills in the D-League or overseas. He wanted to leave after his freshmen year but just did not have a outside shot. I will be very shocked if he came back for next year.

And he still doesn't have an outside shot.
He would be smart to get a degree so he has something to fall back on. The D-League isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
