5-0 start not out of the question......

in fact, I'm predicting it. We may actually be favored in 4 of the 5 anyway.

Maybe not out of the question but about as likely as a 0-5 start IMO. Luckily the schedule isn't set up this season to be back-heavy like it was last season. A 3-3 start seems likely or 4-3 if everything goes right. Then 3 wins to cap the season and UK goes bowling. Of course there's nothing wrong with dreaming of a 5-0 start.

5-0 is highly unlikely, but 0-5 is even less unlikely. This team is not losing to Eastern.

Well I predicted this was possible over a month ago :) We have got to be consistent to do this though. Towles needs 300+ yards in these games to ensure victory. Or somewhere in that range. I would like to see him put together multiple 300+ games with 200+ yards on the ground...that's not too much to ask right?

What we're hearing from camp is definitely encouraging for those of us who believe the Cats can do big things this year. I'm just still a little worried about depth in certain spots and whether we'll be as good at getting sacks and takeaways as we were last year. IF we can do both of those on the same level or higher as last year, LOOK the F OUT!

We finally have the horses to be competitive in every game this year, but the competition is tough as we all know. So you can point to several games that are potential wins or potential losses. However what is absolutely ridiculous is to say we can't beat this team or that team, or can't achieve a certain record this year.

I'd bet on 5-0 a thousand times more than I would bet on 0-5. 0-5 would have us losing to both ULL and Eastern. UK won't lose to either of those. 5 wins would be rough. I think UK can beat Florida, or Missouri or South Carolina but I doubt we will win all 3 in row. I believe we will get 1 of the 3 though. 3 and 2 heading into Auburn is the likely situation.

4-1 if I had to bet. I think we can be 5-0 but it will be hard. 4-1 should be our record and 3-2 wont be meeting expectations. If we are 2-3 then look for the band wagon fans to disappear.

Is it unlikely? Yes. However, i do agree with the original statement. It's not out of the question. The fact that it's even possible has me very excited.
I also have said we have a great chance at 5-0. I think all of us realize and believe we will be very competitive with most opponents this year. Yes we can go 4-8 and meet the expectations of the "experts", but we can compete and if we have few injuries and the team jells early - we could be 10-2. I am an optimist and I think we have a "winning" attitude surrounding the program now. I have had to endure basically 50 years of losing mentality around here, except for a couple of good years. I can honestly say that the winning attitude is as high as it has ever been - including the back to back years of the seventies.

I see little difference in player potential, other than this staff is recruiting so well in the future IMO, the program is going to be successful. I still fear the biggest concern will be holding this staff together. I fully believe this is one of the best coaching staffs ever assembled at UK. That is a huge statement to make, since they are 7-17 in two years! However, we all have to consider what was in place when they arrived. So, you can be a pessimist and say same old Kentucky, or you can be an optimist and believe in these players and coaches - I choose to believe in the team and staff!

Go Big Blue!

I agree it's not out of the question, but I think it unlikely. It's hard to predict wins over Florida whom we've lost to 28 straight times, Missouri who's won the SEC East in their first two years in the SEC, and S Carolina who's coach has pounded UK teams like a pile-driver. The difference this year is I believe we can win any of those games, and it's great to have that belief. However, I can't expect 5-0. Honestly if we could out of it 3-2 I think we'll be off to a decent start. Anything better, and there will be great hope for the rest of the season. I see the Florida and Missouri games as the most likely because they are in Lexington. I'd love to see us win both. The reason for Florida is obvious, and the reason for Missouri is I think that series could develop into a good rivalry, a competitive one.

we will win one of the three against UF, Mizz, and SC. If we win 2 of those I'll be ecstatic.

This. I think we clip one of those squads, but right now I can't honestly figure out which one is my lean. I expect SC to bounce back a bit this year, plus that one's on the road. I won't be confident about a Florida game until we've actually ended that streak. And Maty Mauk is an absolute gamer.

Getting to the bye with a winning record would be huge.

The early schedule is fairly weak (compared to some SEC schedules, mainly west ones) as SC and FL are both way down and have QB issues and UK gets Missouri, a team that does not really have high level SEC recruited talent, at home. So yes, 5-0 is possible, but I'd still bet on 3-2 with a close loss at SC and splitting the two home games.

UK needs to be at least 3-2 through the first five games. With likely wins over Vanderbilt and Charlotte, that would leave UK with five games left to get one win. Of course, finish 4-1 or somehow shock everyone and go 5-0 through the first five games and anything could happen.

If I had a gun to my head I'd probably go 3-2 those first 5 games. But I also believe if they can beat SC @SC and not get banged up, we could very well go into the Auburn game 5-0. And could win that one. Likely, probably not. But, for the first time in a long time I feel confident UK will have a chance to win most every game in the 4th quarter.

Fact is, the 2 games we have mostly written off as probably not winnable are against 2 teams that we've beaten in recent years, on the road. We did beat GA at GA a few years back right?

What if we somehow went 7-1 or 6-2 at home? That's where we gotta start. Got to protect our homefield and make it tough for teams to win there. Am hopeful that the new suites and pressbox will make the stadium sound louder. Can we pump some noise in like the Patriots? ;)

Yeah my point was just that neither is likely.
God help us that someone should dare make an optimistic post about football...

I would say 4-1 is optimistic, 5-0 is whatever comes after optimistic. 3-2 seems to most realistic. Anything less would make getting to a bowl almost impossible.

I sure don't want UK to start 2-3 but even if they did I do not see an impossible road to a bowl. I could see wins over ULL, Eastern, Vandy, MSU, UNCC, and UofL. one or two SEC wins early would certainly make it easier. Although unlikely a 5 -0 start would certainly be a dream start. If that were to happen can you imagine the Cats Den that the Tigers would come into to play UK that Thursday night. CWS would be a mad house. The sleeping football giant would be fully awake.

5-0 start then we lose 4 in a row and then we win the next 3 to end the regular season 8-4.. JMO

And for the third year in a row people are sleeping on Mizzou!!!
I don't think people are sleeping on Mizzou at all.....I think people are waking up to the fact we have a competitive team with quality depth.

Could we have a loss, sure but as I watch our team get more and more talent the gap is closing if not caught up to a few teams.

At least to the point we can do more then just compete.

How about a 12-O start instead?

Fair point, I just wouldn't want to hate to rely on a win against Dak Prescott, even though I think that's potentially a winnable game. I just don't get the people predicting 9-3 as likely. Football isn't basketball, turning around a football program is hard, especially in the SEC. Take Ole Miss for example, Hugh Freeze has recruited as well as anybody in the country and yet his team has gradually improved every year. I'll admit that the East isn't as tough as the West, but every team isn't just going to suddenly become cupcakes because we all get our hopes up. UK is a year away from a 9 or 10 win season (including bowl win). This season a 7 or 8 win season (including bowl victory) would be a great step forward. Of course any significant injuries could mean 4, 5 or 6 wins.

I think we'll be a year ahead of schedule because of improved qb play. We have the best or second best qb in the east. That accounts in todays game more than people give credit for. Our schedule lines up perfectly, I expect great things barring major injuries, and as an avid sports gambler im putting my money where my mouth is.

That's fair. In the offseason every team is a contender.

I think 5-0 is unlikely though not infinitesimal. If it happens, then 6-0 isn't out of the question.
