I love our Cats being ranked #1. Bring on all challengers!!

That is an amazing stat and you can almost 100% take it to the bank Cal will surpass that next week and beyond with the schedule we have the rest of 2015 IMO.

As someone else said last week, one of my favorite stats is the number of weeks UofL has been ranked #1 in the history of the AP poll: 2. Heh.

They are unranked again this week. I wonder how many weeks UK has been unranked all time vs UofL. I know that the last 5+ years Rick was at UK, he was in the top 10 every week but once, when he fell to #11 (I think it was Feb. 1994). He's had entire seasons outside the top 25 at Louisville.....

Anyway, to the OP's point, another in the long list of amazing accomplishments of Cal in the short time he's been here. Man, I'm gonna miss him when he's gone. heh.......

Here, let me expedite this thread for you:

TrollKat3259: You know what this means? Cal should've equalled our number of championships from 1967-2008

Rational Cat: That doesn't even make sense - consecutive weeks at number 1 isn't the same as having a bunch of chances over the decades...

TrollKat: SHut UP ONLY ON COURT RESULTS MATTER HE NEEDS TO PRODUCE

Rational Cat: He's had as good on court results in the first 6 years as any coach has ever had at a new school.. in the history of CBB.

Trollkat: Don't care. He should be working on championship 4 or 5 by now.

Faaaar Cal....he cant coach. Only pays recruits and rolls the ball out there

What's surprising in that stat to me is that we were only #1 33 weeks in that whole period of '67 to '08. There were a number of good/great UK teams in that stretch. Could be an indicator of the change in college b'ball. More good/great teams back then when you had 4 year players? So harder to get to #1...teams ahead of you didn't lose much. Not as much parity? The mid-90's is when you started to see Juniors, and then Sophs going pro. Last number of years of course OAD. Was a period when a few of the top H.S. Seniors went straight to the NBA though.

I think a big factor is that rankings are very arbitrary preseason, but they tend to hold up until proven wrong in season - meaning if you start high and don't lose, you don't really go down.

So certain coaches, who are known to be excellent, even with new teams, are given the benefit of the doubt. This used to drive us crazy when it happened to K and Duke was preseason top 5 every single year, but now that it's true for both us and Duke, we can reasonably expect to be there (for better or worse) every preseason - the coaches and writers know that Duke and UK now are likely to have two of the best teams in the country, regardless of what happens with their rosters.

My bad. I apologize to Charlie. I thought he was mocking Cal's "this is the greatest day in UK history" thing at the draft. My bad. Sorry again. I will say my post StubbornPenny has quoted can apply to those who read this thread who are Cal bashers.

Oh shut up. You Cal haters are a mentally challenged type. The guy is the best thing to happen to UK basketball since Rupp was coach and you people don't like the guy.

I think he means "there are the greatest days," I didn't detect any trolling.

We will be a "circle the date" for every team on our schedule just because our name is Kentucky and we will be one of (if not the) most hated teams in all of college basketball due to our level of success. Might as well be ranked #1 while we're at it.

You have to remember he's not matching little boy stats like this at a smaller school. He's matching UK stats from 67-08.
