The 30 for 30 should put 1 thing to bed for all OUR fans. When someone on the bench doesn't play enough to please some of our fans or someone plays too much according to our fans, looking at you Isiah Briscoe. The reason is Cal promised the 5 stars.minutes. AD said Cal goes in his house and says "Ky isn't for everybody", He goes in KAT's house and says "I.m not promising you anything, you might not play" So who is he making these promises to WG? SKG? It was great to see a side of Cal we as fans have never seen and appreciate that when he does "encourage" a player to go pro, he only does it for their benefit. Oh, and he likes to win championships.

Wait till January next season and it will be on here again.......Cal promises the 5* players time that is why ______________ (fill in the blank) isn't playing much. Or they will suggest that a kids grades are bad.......there is an element here that has a long list of complaints against Cal. You know Cal just rolls the ball out and lets them play.

"30 for 30" should be our response to those who cling to falsehoods about Cal now. Especially about Umass and Memphis. And the NCAA. Hell, all of it.
30 for 30, baby.

wasn't raveling a nike rep for years?

the stuff about cal 'devaluing education' is really annoying. it's the function of the basketball coach at kentucky to teach a lesson about materialism to kids who mostly came from nothing and have a chance to transform their family's lives? when the ncaa rakes in billions and coaches make millions, and north carolina has fake classes for the better part of two decades?

what a crock of shit

But not a word about North Carolina devaluing education! What is education for, for the most part to get a job. um...

I pay no attention to words that coaches use. Coach speak means about as much as gum on the bottom of a high school bleacher.

Cal must give more leeway to the 5* player if he plans on getting more of them. It's just the way it is. Bam was just as bad as hump earlier this year. Missed assignments, wouldn't box out, missed easy rebounds, couldn't hold on to the Ball, lacked a defensive presence. He worked him through it because he had to. But I won't pretend Bam had the same rope that hump did.

Cal doesn't promise anything, that's true. But it's understood that to make this system work you've got to give more freedom to the stars. It's like that on any team in any sport.

Cal doesn't promise players playing time but his standard for who he takes it from is very different from player to player. This is not debatable.

This won't stop them.

If you took all of our recruits' interviews, compiled them, and formed one of those "word clouds" to identify commonly used phrases, some version of "he said he wasn't gonna promise me any playing time" would be by far the most common one.

All of them mention it. Every single one.

I never assumed this was about promises of playing time.

From day 1 its been about keeping the revolving door turning and the moment you get a highly rated kid who is considered an NBA prospect and you trash his playing time to give preference to a role player, recruiting the next NBA prospect gets a little harder.

its a balancing act of course. I can only believe SKJ was so detrimental to the team and his potential draft stock it was better to be on the bench than in the spotlight of UK Basketball. I believe this summer SKJ (and Wenyen) will be on a regimented training program to come back mentally and physically prepared to produce on the court.

But I've never believed Cal promised playing time.

SKJ, Daniel Orton, WG, says hi

I don't think Cal gives more leeway to 5 stars. Cal plays the 5 stars more because you know they are our best players lol.

And Bam was never as bad as Hump. Plus I think there's a difference between being bad and just being a freshman playing in the first few games. Cal isn't giving them more leeway because of their rank. He's giving them time to figure it out so that by the end of the season they know what to do. It's a learning process. He knows those are they guys we are going to live and die with when push comes to shove

I agree. I think that is how it should be, high risk, high reward. That is, Monk may make a couple of turnovers and miss 3 straight shots, Willis comes out. Monk stays in because he might go off for 18 points the rest of the half. You shouldn't coach every player the same

Now you are just making sense. Is that allowed on here? Playing the best players? Why doesn't Mulder, Willis and Hawkins get 35 minutes? Oh because we have Monk, Fox and Bam. Yes you leave your stars in to figure it out and they will get going sooner or later

I haven't seen the 30 for 30 yet but I was not always a fan of Coach Calipari (probably because of his issues at UMass and Memphis). However, my respect for him has grown immensely. He deserves enormous credit for bringing in all of these talented players every year, giving them playing time, and getting them to play hard and play as a team. It is incredibly difficult to have to basically start over from scratch each October. Not only that, but every game I watch, he teaches his players (without screaming at them) throughout the game. Coach Calipari can certainly recruit but I believe he doesn't get the credit he deserves for his coaching.

And I say hi back?

SKJ literally could not play. He's overrated and obviously there's big issues there. Cal can't play you if you totally suck, that's not my point.

Daniel Orton had a problem called Demarcus Cousins and Patrick Patterson. I'd even argue Cal put up with more BS from him and his father than most and still gave him valuable minutes.

Not sure how Gabriel makes a point for you. He got plenty of rope this year. Far more than Hump, Willis at that age, Mulder etc.

I'm not arguing it's not justified. Im just saying Cal can't operate this system by having the studs on a short leash. They also are the best players. He needs them to grow. Other guys have more time.

But they aren't treated as equals and given the same amount of rope. All im saying

Most of us already knew this. Glad you finally recognized it.
