Interesting development as I recall when custis first decommitted several months ago several of us were of the opinion that he could get over-recruited and go back on the market.

It made sense to me. I do think Alabama recruits over what they already have. That's why their well never runs dry, they have 5 star recruits competing for playing time. Bama will continue to recruit other 5 star running backs in the future, so Harris will have to accept that and be willing to challenge/be challenged for playing time. At a school like UK he would be the man until he decided to declare for the draft.

They have more commits than they have spots, so they are letting some go and offering a grayshirt to others... Must be nice to have the luxury of cherry picking very talented kids... The guys they do keep will always be looking over their shoulder, they'll run another bunch of 5 stars at you every year... Years back we lost Demetrius Goode to Bama in the last few days before NSD, he never got a smell down there and was a very good player. I'd rather be a big fish in a small pond than vice versa, JMHO

^I don't think the truly elite players look at it in this way. I think they feel like they're going to be the biggest fish in the biggest pond.

He ended up playing behind a Heisman winner and one of the most talented five star RBs in years before transferring for his fifth year.

And I agree that some of the top ranked players think they are invincible, but that isn't that uncommon among young people. I definitely agree with the last statement above though, I would much rather play than sit on the bench for a winner.

So if every kid they recruit gets recruited over, how do they field a lineup every week? That was my point. Guys like Amari Cooper and TJ Yeldon sure haven't been recruited over.

I agree that he will have to compete for and earn playing time (as it should be everywhere), but the statement that "every kid gets recruited over" is just whining and sour grapes. It's not like he's a borderline prospect for Bama; he is the #1 RB in the nation. I suspect he is aware he may have to wait his turn at Alabama. Let's move on.

Goode no more than hit campus when he sustained a serious knee injury. He played little due to the injury, not because he wasn't good enough.

No one knows how the Alabama commit will turn out but being just good at Bama is not good enough. You have to be great at any blue chip program or you WILL lose your spot. Dominique Hawkins, Derek Willis, & Kyle Wiltjer are good examples of this. Kyle would be getting very little to any playing time at UK but he is killing it at Gonzaga.

I think UK did any and everything possible to recruit this kid. Best kid in the state no doubt. The question is simple to him. Why did you not let UK know in October? They bent over backwards for you, and yet you knew what you were going to do to them.

UK could and would have moved on with some time to recruit someone else. Yet, you led them on.

After you had decided secretly where you were going you liked UK well enough to come over weekends and hang out with the players, went to the games. Enjoyed the college life as the big man on campus.

Then you decide to have a huge press conference announcement. Even invited UK players to the event. Then stiffed all them to their face and of course, UK itself.

I hope AL recruits 20 ***** Running backs.

Agree with this. Not a huge fan of how Harris handled the situation knowing that he had made a decision so far in advance.

Alas, this has become another Harris thread. Here's hoping the staff is able to get Custis on board!

Yea. Harris should have let Stoops and crew know after the iron bowl. He wouldn't have gotten to be BMOC and the royal treatment at the UNC bball game, which was a huge event locally. IMO out of respect for the home team and locals, if you are going to hold the PC and give everyone who supported you the middle finger---why not just do it NSD? Bama doesn't need anymore help recruiting and killing the home teams mo doesn't happen that way. I'm sure the lack of an offensive line, and no evidence the line coach is getting things together helped our cause.

These players might believe being recruited over isn't going to happen to them need to pay attention to guys like Custis. Just because you are Sabans flavor of the week doesn't mean come February you are going to have a spot. You can star anywhere in this conference and the NFL will find you, even if your coach is a nimrod---ask Cobb. Just like getting your heart broken by the cheerleader who used you to get back at her boyfriend, being second fiddle sucks and I wonder if Custis thinks the one night romp was worth it. You had the one ready to take you warts and all.
