Someone asked me a little while back to talk about and rank the top in-state players in the 2023 class. First, I wanted to go back and watch film again on some of these guys and refresh my memory a bit. So, I tried to come up with my own rankings using factors such as film, potential, frame & body type, current offers, projection to college, etc. The 2023 class has some really nice talent in it, so, this was not easy. But, here we go.
1) William (Woo) Spencer - OL/DL from Male. He looks like a DL all the way. Has great ability for a big guy and there's no wonder Rivals has him ranked #1 as well.
2) Micah Carter - DE from St. X. Long frame and already has a great build. His first highlight shows his agility as he snares a pass out of the air for an INT.
3) Cristian Conyers - DB/WR from South Warren. Does it all for SW, including returning punts. Looks like he could play DB or WR in college, but seems headed for DB.
4) Malachi Wood - Massive 6'9, 300 pounder and OT from Madison Central. Already has offers from UK and WVU, but have a feeling his stock will skyrocket after this fall.
5) Tommy Zeismer - Edge/DE from Boyle County. Plays aggressive and tough like so many Boyle County kids through the years. If he were just a bit longer, I think his offer sheet would be even more impressive than it already is.
6) Kaden Moorman - RB from Franklin County. First thing you notice is that he has outstanding feet and vision. Reminds me a lot of a bigger, not quite as fast version of La'Vell Wright in last years class. 4.75 and 4.85 forty's at UK camp certainly stick out.
7) Ty Bryant - DB at Frederick Douglass. After just watching his film for the 3rd or 4th time, he is really growing on me quickly. Gets to the ball quickly and aggressively. Kentucky is getting a nice commitment here in a couple of days.
8) Dakota Patterson - ATH from Corbin. Okay, I know there are Corbin posters here and I hope we can still be friends! I like Patterson, just want to see how he grows over the never year or so and ultimately to what position he will project. Doesn't look like a SEC WR at the moment to me, so I'm just not sure where he lines up yet. Also, Rivals doesn't have him in the top five of the state either.
9) Kaden Briggs - DL from Butler. This is the one guy in this list that I am pretty sure has never been mentioned here before. He has no offers, but camped at UK this summer and had some nice reps. Definitely a guy to keep an eye on IMO.
10) Saadiq Clements - DL from Henderson County. This one was hard for me. His tape is mostly of him playing OL and it is not very impressive. A couple of his DL clips show some potential, but I want to see more. Surprised a bit by his 5.7 rating.
11) Oryend Fisher - DE from Great Crossing. Long and lean at 6'6, but only right at 200 lbs. Great frame that has drawn UK, UofL, WVU offers. Looks raw on film.
12) Trevon Alexander - OL from North Hardin. Has potential, but really needs to take on Kiyaunta Goodwin's workout plan or that potential may get wasted. Massive kid, but needs to reshape his body and help with his feet.
Okay, that is it. Will definitely try to revisit this later this fall and update.
