2011 - Sweet 16 Masterpiece

Except for our Championship game victories, this is one of my top two favorite games. Aaron Craft, the Ohio State guard, was so monumentally overrated it always made me sick to listen to the broadcasters talk about him. But our man Brandon Knight took Craft to school with the game-winning jumper over Craft. I'll never forget that shot ! ! !

Feel like this is an underrated (not BADLY rated...) squad. And --SHUDDER SHUDDER--one of Cal's only HOF good coaching jobs.

I agree, if he would have coached most games in the realm of this one he would still be here. He was so much better with Robic, and pre- 2015, 2017 was his last elite coaching job.

Robic was definitely the difference maker but he can still coach when he has something to really motivate him. We saw that again this year with UK, KU, and Rick.

People always look for bias confirmation.

Cal has always been a great coach.

He took UMass from nothing to a perennial contender. UMass!!

They fell back to nothing after he left.

Cal shifted his focus from program first to player first before he got to UK. He never made a secret of it. In fact, he stated it over and over from day 1.

That’s fine when you’re getting Wall, Cuz, Bledsoe, TJ, Knight, AD, Randle, Booker, Murray, Knox, Bam, Monk, Fox, etc types.

It’s not so great when you get Brooks, Toppin, Wheeler, etc types.

The best example of players first hurting the program was Sharpe.

Cal did exactly right for Sharpe. And exactly what he said he would do.

It was as wrong for the program as could be.

Mitch should have laid down the law right then and told Cal that he has to put the program first or seek employment elsewhere.

Mitch finally did that a year ago and Cal left.

We now have a for certain program first coach.

We can only hope that he has the same results that Cal did. I think he will.

Loved that game. Will never forget Jorts throwing the ball off that OSU guy.
But...coulda, shoulda, woulda:

We overachieved that year, beat the Tarholes to reach the FF, but coulda won it all if we could only hit freakin' FTs.

We shoulda won it all in 2010, 2014, 2015.

But if all that happened, Cal woulda never left.

Fyi robic was with him back at umass but not till 98.

I said cal is still good when he is motivated. Back then he was constantly motivated. He didn't lose that fire till some point at UK.

One of my favorite parts about that game was Clark Kellogg going completely silent the rest of the telecast after Knight hit the three.

For the remaining three minutes of the telecast, you don't hear a peep from him.

His hate, as well as the majority of sports media's hate and disdain for all things Cal/UK in the 2010s, was on full display. Absolutely loved it.
