10 win seasons in UK history

starting in 2008 all college teams play more games now than in the past. We also dropped a power 5 school and replaced them with a sisters of the poor opponent.

Stoops is the best we have had since the Bear but don't take away from the past wildcats who played for us.

CMS' record in "close" games (defined as decided by 7 points or less) by my count:
2013 0-2
2014 1-2
2015 3-3
2016 4-1
2017 4-3
2018 3-1
2019 2-1
2020 2-1
2021 5-1

This is talent AND coaching IMO. 12-4 the past 4 seasons, including all 4 bowl wins. Impressive...

Also, since Bear Bryant left (68 seasons), UK has had 15 seasons with 7 or more wins. Stoops has 5 of them.
1954-2015 (62 seasons): 10 seasons with 7 or more wins
2016-2021 (6 seasons): 5 seasons with 7 or more wins.

New era in UK football.
Brooks has 4 of the 10 seasons. Curci has 2; Collier, Claiborne, Mumme and Morriss have 1.

Other neat stats ...
Wandale not only set record for receptions (104), but also yards (1,334, topping Yeast's 1,311 in 1998), and is now #15 on all-time UK receiving yards list.
C-Rod had 5th best rushing season for UK and is now #6 on the all-time rushing list, passing George Adams today.
Levis had 8th most passing yards in a season and is now #15 all time UK passing list.

Yes and there were a few more in beginning that would/should havee in the W column. That was when he was wet behind the ears and stuggled with game management quite a bit. Also includes some that were Ws arleady but shouldnt have been that close.

The overall bigger take awasy is the way we compete period. There's no opponent or game any more where the oppponent doest have to work like crazy to beat us.

Recognizing Stoops’ accomplishments isn’t taking away from past teams.

It’s also inaccurate to suggest that our out of conference schedule is significantly easier than it was prior to 2008. Our OOC schedule has varied over our history, but there were also many years where it was very similar to today’s.

Take the 1984 team that went 9-3 as an example. That season had 5 out of conference games (we used to only have to play 6 SEC games), and only one of those games was against a power 5 opponent. We also played one game against a 1-AA school.

The 1984 OOC opponents and their respective W-L records were:
  • Kent State (4-7)
  • Indiana (0-11)
  • Tulane (3-8)
  • Rutgers (7-3)
  • North Texas State (2-9)
I wouldn’t consider the 1984 OOC schedule to be that different from that type of OOC schedule we play today.

There were some years in the 70s where we had some tough schedules, but there have been just as many years where the schedule looked similar to today. And again, they didn’t have to play 8 SEC games before the 90s.

We’ve been playing football for a very long time and it’s entirely appropriate to recognize Stoops for having half of our 10 win seasons.

Thank you for posting. Stoops isn’t taking anything away, only adding.

Looking back to the 50’s, Bryant averaged 11.5 games a season. Not the 13 of today, but more than most folks realize.

And there were a lower % of SEC games among the 11.5 per year, with some built in annual breathers, like Xavier.

So yes, every era had strengths and weaknesses.

Anyone who wants to diss ten-win seasons, answer me this: why did we “achieve” ten-loss seasons against schedules similar to our current schedule, if it is so easy, now?

To be fair teams only played an 11 game schedule until 2002 before 1940 only 9, and historically there have only been a handful of bowls, it wasn't until recently that most every team started getting a 13th game. so 10 win seasons for any team not named Alabama have historically been extremely rare.

None the less by any measure the Stoops era is only rivaled by the Bryant era as the best runs in Kentucky football history. The significance of what Stoops is achieving and continues to build has not been fully appreciated by most people, even our own fan base IMO.

Frankly, I was and I am pleasantly surprised by having a Top 15 Class, that is frankly under rated because of the nation’s best place-kicker being counted a two-star.

The 2020 Class with all those d-linemen that flashed this year, along with this coming 2022 Class (and portal additions) . . . .

There is no ceiling for Kentucky football!!!
