‘25 4* Braydon Hawthorne visiting UK on Wed

Shorter Ament is what I think

He seems like a late bloomer, usually this type of guy may surprise people and play surprising well in college games
He looks quicker than Nate. At the 3, that is very important. Still needs to gain weight, but, I like the raw potential.

If we don’t get Wilkerson, and get Hawthorne instead, I predict everyone will be upset until later in the season when you start seeing his potential unfold.

We are good at SG with Oweh, Chandler and Johnson. Before everyone starts screaming Oweh is a SF, you define your position by who you guard. With this roster, Kam is likely to start at the SF, unless we get Wilkerson. He may start even if we get Wilkerson. Oweh will be guarding the 2 in that scenario.

Let’s let Pope decide who we want and who fits. I thought we were done in the frontcourt and then he gets Jelavic. Shows me I have no clue.

Sounds like Pope is going to fill all 15 possible scholarships.
Maybe all of the year’s past injuries has him being guarded against possible future issues. Certainly wasn’t something cow learned from.

Dude, I’m all for thinking long term. But this guy is no better than Trent Noah, and Noah already has a year of experience on him. Oweh will leave after this season, and either Kam Williams will become the new starter and we go portaling for an experienced backup, or Williams will fail to win the starting job and will remain #2 while we go portaling for a starter. Either way, this young man will be 4th string SF. And that’s if Mo D. doesn’t get any minutes at the 3 spot at all, which I’m not convinced he won’t. Not just this coming year, but the year after as well. So spare me the condescension please.

Edit: I’m aware this kids game is totally different from Noah’s. I’m just talking from a talent standpoint relative to those ahead of him on the depth chart. Noah gives up 3” to him but is FORTY FIVE POUNDS heavier. Think about that. SEC would break this guy.
I played 4 years of a college varsity sport and outworked everyone I was recruited with and ended up all conference 3x and all south 3x and getting inducted into my school’s hall of fame. I had players better than me in my class to start but no one better to finish. It’s very shortsighted to believe players don’t get better than others or completely blow up and become stars.

1. If we get Wilkerson AND this kid, that would make 14 (I think?). I was under the impression it has not been decided whether the scholarship limit will be 13 players or 15 players. May not have room for him anyway.
2. Until things settle down and we're no longer in Wild West territory, I'm not sure how much "planning beyond 1 year" there should be. Seems like most kids think they should be free agents each year. The idea of bringing in a kid with the intention of developing him for 2 years down the road or whatever may be a thing of the past.
3. Regarding Oweh, I will be shocked if he doesn't declare for the draft and go through the process of getting feedback from teams, and then I will be shocked if he doesn't take his name out and come back to UK.

I'd love to have this kid, but he's not coming here. Kid is good enough to play real minutes at a power five school. Here, he'd have to redshirt or play very little year one. Doubt he's willing to do that, but maybe he is if the staff is willing to meet with him.

I think so as well but he wasn’t highly recruited so maybe he won’t mind sitting the bench a year at a school he never thought he would have a chance at and then hit the stage next year. Heck he may carve out some Minutes this year. He’s got size and talent.

I wouldn't be surprised if he is good enough to be backup 3 (plays 10-15 minutes)

While you are probably right, he is also probably well aware of the roster, saw where it was heading when he set the visit, and is still wanting to roll through so we let it play out.

He may just be a real one that wants to be here, a better, higher upside Almanor.
They may be rare but I imagine there are one or two out of the thousands almost every year.

This reminds me somewhat of the Thiero recruitment from a few years ago. Both were late bloomers, albeit with different skill sets (Thiero more strong and physical, Hawthorne appears to be better at ball handling and shooting).

This. I think he would be good get . He will definitely play. Him with Oweh and Kam could share 2-3 positions.

have you seen him play?
never even heard of him until last week or so
from watching his video, he is pencil thin

Rather have Freeman or Steen, but whoever wants to be here is welcome by me. Trust in Pope.
Now, refocus and go get UK a formidable backcourt recruit that compliments the current roster. Someone who is a knock down shooter with above above average handles and not a complete liability on defense.

Freeman visiting UT. Don't know why we didn't have interest. Looks like a really good player. Would give us two scorers at the three.

We are at a point where we only need secondary players that will have to split time with other players here. There aren’t many kids now that are willing to do that. It was the reason why we lost Wilkerson and he was going to be a probable starter.

I’m sure Freeman wants a larger role than what Coach Pope’s system offers.

What was his 3pt %? I think if thats good then we can get him for SG where his weight is fine for a freshman. If we have to have Jasper as a backup PG and start Chandler or Kam at the SG, then this kid as the backup SG aint a bad idea
