    In most cases at this point in hs (and portal) recruiting, teams are taking flyers on prospects with high ceilings. The exceptions being rare usually just because a string of events had to occur for those quality to still be available at this point.

    Cal doesn’t have an offset clause so if he took another job UK would only owe the difference. That alleviates the financial costs. Cal doesn’t strike me as the type to not take a job after getting canned. He’s too proud.

    Being a NFL coordinator is more prestigious, possibly better paying in some circumstances, and doesn't require any recruiting. I think that's why he left, and more college coordinators would do so if they had the NFL ties that he had.
