I think they get like $4.50 a day, but I agree that there should be some nutritional restrictions on what they use it for. I mean there were times in my life when I ate beans & taters 4 or 5 times a week and it didn't kill me :)

That $4.50 a day was mysterious figure, the origins of which Im not sure.

As someone who carried out groceries for 3 years during HS, they get quite a bit of money. Not unusual at all for them to have 2 or 3 carts full of stuff.

If youre in line at the supermarket, you can always tell whos paying with the EBT. They have tons of snack cakes, cartons of soda, steaks, and basically everything else one can imagine.

Are we taking bets about whether this attack on a Chattanooga military office is courtesy of the Religion of Peace?
"A U.S. official says the gunman in the shootings in Tennessee has been identified as 24-year-old Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez.

He was believed to have been born in Kuwait, and it was unclear whether he was a U.S. or Kuwaiti citizen. The official was speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the ongoing, sensitive investigation. It was not immediately clear whether the gunman's first name was spelled Muhammad or Mohammad."

Maybe not let the poors buy whatever they want from corner stores?...including cigs/beer/whatever...video poker in extreme cases. You people really think the govt gives a shit about the health of people?

Naive ain't even the word. Pure retardation.

What was the term for that practice in EKY where people buy huge amounts of Mountain Dew using EBT and then sell it to gas stations for cash?

not to mention the level of fraud and waste with foodstamps. I don't know what the cost of food stamps is nationally, but I'd be willing to bet 35% is sold by recipients for change on the dollar or drug exchange.
I understand people need help, and I'm all for helping people back on their feet. But someone has to pay for this shit, and we're getting to the point due to cost of food and flat wages where more and more people even working people need foodstamps. That isn't progress in my mind.

save us TONS (no pun intended) of money in healthcare on the backend.

But now we need new places for children to stand:

Tons of fraud in all programs. The problem is that finding/prosecuting the fraud becomes more expensive than the money it would save. Same thing with drug testing welfare recipients. I have no doubt scamming is high for any of these programs.

Slightly related, but I read a while back (sometime this last winter) that if everyone paid their actual taxes due there would be zero budget deficit. Not sure if it's true, but if so yikes.

But we don't necessarily have to prosecute or to investigate fraud in entitlement programs. Just put in firewalls on the front end to help curb abuse, as you said with WIC.

How about instead of drug-testing welfare recipients, you just disqualify anyone who has a DUI or drug-related felony within the past X years?

We should fasten our seat belts as we will continue to see more and more of this IMO.

Ironic to see catdaddy use Sweden as a model and next post a pic inferring american racism. Needs to read a little.

Bill, you're already paying for it.
Didn't say that public utilities shouldn't make profits...they can and do but they are not free to raise rates at their pleasure. If they decided to double rates tomorrow...there would be nothing you could do about it. Go off the grid or pay. Any unfettered capitalistic venture will seek to maximize profits. Maximizing profits will always price those at the bottom out of the market.
Utilities for the most part have a monopoly on their market. You can dig a well on your property or get it from your local utility. Same with electricity, natural gas. Do you really want the utility market testing to see what the market will bear?
The deregulation of utilities in certain states has led to higher prices for consumers as compared to regulated utilities. On average, the unregulated companies charge around 30% more for electricity. So much for letting the markets determine what the cost of heating and lighting your house is.

SSDI has been a boon for this admin....3-4 million added that aren't in the unemployment numbers and more debt transferred to the current economy.

Then when they try to regulate what can be bought with foodstamps they can't even do that. Something about taking people's dignity. Where I was raised being on foodstamps is indignity, much less preventing them from buying lobster on it. Nevermind that people actually in need of foodstamps won't be buying lobster, but people that exchange money or drugs for it do.

Do people realize how many people live in the countries mentioned? Do you realize there is little diversity within the population? Comparing the US to Canada is not realistic, and comparing us to Sweden is just ridiculous.

Yea I also just found out he lives in the Colonial Shores subdivision of Hixson which is about 7 miles from our quiet little neighborhood. I tell ya guys when this stuff happens in New York or Boston, we all are alarmed and concerned but when it happens in your home town, its different - a really sobering experience. ISIS is here in my own neighborhood, nobody would have ever believed that yesterday.

just showing the absurdity of demonizing those socialist countries and how terrible they are. If someone didn't tell you Sweden was socialist, you'd never know the difference.

I don't care what Sweden is, and neither does anyone else. There's a reason they're who they are and a reason the United States is the most prosperous nation the earth has ever seen.

Jamo, that stats a little misleading on Canada compared to say how the U.S. Considers ethnicity.
In Canada French, German, British, Scottish,Canadian, and Inuit are considered different ethnicities.
In the U.S. That would be 2 ethnicities by and large Caucasian and Native American. So it's a little misleading.

No the absurdity is liberals loving homogenous small Nordic countries that are back lashing against immigration.

Racists.

Major Garrett angered BO in his rare press conference regarding not negotiating the release of the 4 Iranian prisoners. Pretty much the whole media establishment went after Garrett. Bill Maher went all LEK/catdaddy on him:

#MajorGarrett is a huge asshole. If U wanna "strike a nerve" with POTUS, why not just scream the N word? That shld get his attention.

What happens to illegals when they commit crimes and are jailed?

I don't know anything about this stuff, and doubt many here do, but I'm listening hard. I want to know. Article in today's HL throwing out stats....which I absolutely hate because stats are whatever you want them to be, but I'm listening...

- illegals make up 3.5% of the population, but made up 36.7% of people federally sentenced in 2014, per U.S. Sentencing commission (wtf that is).
*ok, that number is staggering. Assume it's fluffed a bit, even at 20% that number is shocking. And why do we sentence them? It takes years to complete trials in today's BS world (another big problem, waste of resources/time/money/everything). Shouldn't they be shipped back to wherever they came from?

The president's reaction to his question was alarming. He was completely offended, and petty. Im not sure if he was offended because someone in the MSM actually asked him a pointed question, or if its because he thinks his decisions are above questioning; or both.

I thought the question was an incredibly fair, and incredibly important one. The president had a chance to rescue these 4 americans being unjustly held. Why didnt he? He definitely didnt get anything else out of the deal.

Nevermind the fact that Quebec is french speaking and Canada has 2 national languages. Nope, not diverse at all; according to some.

Agree totally. The toughest part of deporting illegals should be finding them. Once apprehended, for whatever reason (dui, murder, speeding, traffic stop) then deport them ASAP.

And if those numbers are even close to true, and consistent yearly, them we don't have as big of a jail problem as the media would leave is to believe...or As I thought we did. We have an immigration problem and we don't know how to handle it.

36.7%. Stat guys? Is that not nuts. Y'all don't believe shit till some made up blog drops a number on your head...

And again, if this is even half way true, we got a big problemo. The biggest problem, imo, is the lack of coverage. There is no coverage. It goes as far as "our prisons are overcrowded! We needed more prisons!". Yikes.

I wonder what's cheaper. To house all the illegal aliens (who have commited federal crimes on top of the crimes to get in the country) in our jails, or to fly them to the tip of South America and drop them off.

He certainly didn't mind trading 5 terrorists out of GITMO for Bergdahl, who ended up being a deserter.

Very true. We've built jails to accommodate a percentage of our population. The problem is we're jailing all kinds of people not included in the population because theyre illegals.

He definitely didn't. His foreign policy has been nothing but capitulation. You know other world leaders have to love this president.

Interesting strategy from HuffPo:

After watching and listening to Donald Trump since he announced his candidacy for president, we have decided we won't report on Trump's campaign as part of The Huffington Post's political coverage. Instead, we will cover his campaign as part of our Entertainment section. Our reason is simple: Trump's campaign is a sideshow. We won't take the bait. If you are interested in what The Donald has to say, you'll find it next to our stories on the Kardashians and The Bachelorette.
