In regards to your comment about "knee jerk reactions". Civil rights leaders and legislators in South Carolina have been trying to get that flag removed from state grounds since 1988. What about that is a quick decision?
We can take the Civil War history of the flag completely out of the equation. It really is a push. The flag that we see today didn't necessarily hold the same cultural significance because it's not the actual flag of the South's rebel soldiers. What we can focus on is the fact that South Carolina (and many other southern areas) brought that flag back from the dead in the 60's as a symbol of opposition to the civil rights movement. I just don't understand how people gloss over this fact. The reasoning for that flag being displayed on state grounds is deep seated in hate and prejudice. Anyone who considers the flag to be a symbol of "southern heritage" IMO subscribes to that hate or prejudice in some varying degree. Removing the flag is certainly not a solution to racism in the country but it's a damn good start.

Is anyone under the impression that taking tbe flag down solves racism?
I thought we all just agreed that the place for historical symbols is in a museum, not flying over government property, particularly when a sizable portion of the population views them as symbols of hate, oppression or treason.

The flag is not banned. I do not understand why people keep saying this. The flag was simply removed from state grounds, which it had no business being. People are still free to purchase and fly those flags on their cars, homes, clothing etc. The media doesn't just misinform one side as we'd all like to think. The media is equal opportunity in the spreading of falsehoods.

Why must we always juxtapose the worst areas for Black folks against any crime or atrocity that involves white people? Chicago and Baltimore are being ravaged with violence and poverty and we need to address that in America. I've spent considerable time in both areas and have seen it first hand. I've also lived in Detroit and that city is going through the same thing if not worse. My issue is equating these cities with issues like the Confederate flag makes it sound as if a persons is saying, "See (insert issue here) isn't that bad, look what is happening over there!".
Politicians on the whole aren't really in the business of helping the low class. It isn't just in the US. Its all through history. Human civilization has always looked at the low class like, "Hey, somebody's got to do it." This is nothing new and its not because of "libtards" or "repukes". People in our country don't even realize how far politics have split us as a people because everyone wants to be on the "right side".

The black on black crime statistics are some of the most misconstrued facts out in the media. The numbers are pretty similar for white on white crime. In 2013 the figures read that 83 percent of whites are killed by other white while 90 percent of blacks are killed by other blacks. No one talks about that because the liberals and Blacks are out of control!!!! Once again this is a media talking point that is pushed by the side that opposes liberals. Constitution was written to get rid of slavery and it was working and it was on its way out and it was abolished in the south before it was in the north. General Grant of the north along with many northern owned slaves until even after the war was over with. Largest slave owner in Virginia in the 1860 census was a black man. Their was free blacks and whites in the south, 1860 census stated their was 3000 black slave owners around the city of New Orleans who owned white and black slaves.
The architect of central park went into new Orleans and wanted to know why the white slaves were in the bottom of the barge and the black slaves on top rolling the cotton bales down into the hull. Foreman responded the black slaves were worth much more and the rednecks weren't worth anything. Yes the word redneck is a white slave term.
