LSU at Kentucky (2)

Finally.....Harmon down and Hill in. Probably done more for the weather/defense issues tonight.

Apparently there is a lineup change for UK.

Going to have Hill in right, Anu in left. Rhodes sitting out. Not sure who will DH

Line out to Schultz to start and then Hagenow walks the 2 hole hitter. Stolen base and Kessler sails it into center to put the runner on third, but Hagenow gets a strikeout for the second out. He then gets a weak line drive behind second for out number 3.

0-0

Schultz strikes out. Collett draws a full count before fouling out near third. Rhodes lines out to center.

0-0 going to 2

Hagenow gets a K and then throws 4 straight balls to give a walk to the 6 hole. Hagenow then hits the 7 hole batter and Roszel is out to talk to him.

Well, Hagenow just didn’t have it. 4 walks. LSU leads 1-0. New pitcher for Kentucky already.

Another walk. This one on a 3-2 count. Now LSU has the bases loaded with 1 out. Jones up in the lineup. 9 hole hitter for LSU. Walk scores a run. Top of the lineup now up with UK down 0-1.

UK now making a pitching change. Jones coming in.

Sac fly scores a run and then a ground out to end the inning.

0-2 going to bottom of the 2nd.

That was 2 runs without a hit.

Kessler lines one into right and it bounces once before it hits the wall. He can't stretch it into a double. Anu flies out to the left field corner. LF has a tiny bit of trouble with it as he played it awkwardly, but it is out 1. Labas not very sharp in this inning. A lot of balls being thrown. Estep works a full count before grounding out to first. Runner at 2nd for Ritter, but he strikes out looking.

0-2 going to the third.

Leadoff triple past the diving Hill. Plastiak can't handle a hard hit ball at third to score the run. 0-3. Jones throws a beautiful hook to get a K looking. Wild pitch advances the runner to second and takes away the double play. A grounder to third goes for an infield single. That one was close and I don't know that it wasn't an out. Sac fly into center scores another. 0-4. Grounder to short ends the inning.

Plastiak grounds out to first. Hill hits a HOME RUN!!! Went out to left center. 1-4

Schultz strikes out swinging as does Collett. Going to the 4th with UK down 1-4.

Grounder to short to start, followed by a ground ball up the middle for Morgan at the top of the lineup that goes for a single. Morgan advances to second on a pickoff move that gets passed Collett and goes for an error on Jones. Pop up to Collett in foul territory for out 2. That was a scary one. Collett kind of caught that one funky. Roszel out to talk to Jones here with 2 outs. They will make a move to Harper.

Harper in against Dugas, a dangerous hitter, and Dugas destroys one into the UK bullpen. Murdered it. 1-6.

Harper gets a K swinging to end the LSU 4th. 1-6 with Rhodes, Kessler and Anu due up.

Fly out to left for Rhodes. Put a good wood on it, but couldn't get it to go the distance. Kessler just hits. This one a weak line drive up the middle for a single. Anu gets under a pitch and flies out to middle depth center. Estep also flies out, his to the fence in left.

1-6 going to the 5th.

Mentioned something about an injury to Rhodes on the radio. I just caught the tail end of it so didn’t catch what kind of injury.

Interesting. I heard he was nursing something at one point. Still, if that is the case it might be best to just sit him and get Shelby some reps.

Mizzu and auburn series were fools gold. This is a bottom 3-4 SEC team. Won’t be enough to get mingione canned unfortunately.
Primarily due to horrible pitching. I’d be curious to see how many times per game UK pitchers hit a batter. Has to be at least 3 per game. Pitiful.

Another bad inning for UK as a pair of singles sandwiches a grounder to short (played by Estep) and LSU scores again 1-7. Harper gets a K swinging for the second out.

Harney up in the pen and UK is going to go to him.

Ritter with a weak grounder to third for the first out. Plastiak then hits a nice line drive into left center for a single. Hill strikes out swinging. Schultz draws a full count and then a walk. Collett then lines it to second who can't haul it in, but he knocks it down and throws Collett out at first.

1-7

Harney finishes the LSU 6th off pretty easily as he gets a line drive to right and then a couple of swinging strikeouts.

1-7

Rhodes pops out to shallow right. Kessler strikes out looking and it was trash. The last strike was a strike, but the two before it were not. Anu flies out to left.

1-7 going to the 7th

To lose this series after such a good win vs. Louisville is deflating
U6 win was fools gold...there are a skeleton of former years. Between injuries and pitching problems they are severely overrated. Mingione should have been replaced during this pandemic.

Harney got a couple easy outs and then gave up a single. A hit into the corner then looked like it might score a run, but a throw from Anu to Estep to Kessler caught the runner at home for out 3 and kept the score 1-7.

2 years ago filthy orange was one of the weakest 2/3 teams in sec... change coaches and today they stand at 26-5/8-2 ranked 6th in the country.

Few years ago UK looked like they were finally building a baseball program, had pretty good teams playing in a bad stadium. Now they have a pretty good stadium showcasing bad teams. That's all been pissed away. At a loss why it can't happen at UK.

Combakatz3, appreciate your running account of games, thanks1

Back to back singles runs the LSU starter out of the game. Runners on second and third 0 outs for Plastiak. He is first pitch swinging and pops out. There is nothing I hate more than first pitch swinging on a new pitcher. Let the other hitters see the ball a few times and help the team. Instead, a one pitch out. Hill pokes one through the left side. He once again goes opposite field and Hill has an RBI for both the UK scores. 2-7.

You're right, TN had a run of 10-15 years where they were really bad. Have turned that around.

BTW, LSU was not typical early but they are a very young, very talented team. Will be a SEC threat over the next couple of years.

Ritter moved to third on a throwing error by the left fielder. So, runners and first and third. Schultz up and he falls behind early, but battles back to full count. UK is not lucky this series as a passed ball gets past the catcher, but it hits the umpire's leg instead of going all the way to the backstop. If it doesn't hit the umpire it is a run. Instead, no one moves up. 9 pitches into this at bat for Schultz and 10th pitch is outside and Schultz walks.

Collett up with the bases full of Cats.

I'm not going to take anything away from the program or kids. That's a big win for them even if Louisville is mediocre, its a big win on paper beating the #7 team and on their field for the first time since 2014.
