Who do you think pope is speaking to or going after? Robinson, Lanier, Poplar i know we have reached out or heard from these 3, have we reached out to anyone else?

Slow period right now I know we need a scoring 2/3, and a backup pf. I know people like Ancor,Toppin, but has there been any sources or claim to be sources were after them? I have heard the big from UCLA, also has he committed? I know some players will have combine and gleague camps to go too but what's everyone's thoughts?

I think Achor should be our #1 target for the other PF spot, but not sure how much ground we have to make up for him. If you can’t get him, you hope Jaylen Wells passes on the NBA and you get him in for a visit. If you miss on both those guys then I guess you take the UCLA kid.

I’m still having a hard time seeing where Lanier or Poplar either one fit on this team. The only way is if Brea plays the 3… and if that happens then you don’t need Jaxson Robinson.

Lanier would be the best player on this team by far.

To me the main two glaring needs are a backup to Carr that is OK coming off the bench and rebounding/defending like a crazy man. Someone in the 6-8 to 6-10 range that has some meat on them. And second a guy like Lanier that can create his own shot, score and shoot. That third spot maybe the best available high ceiling young guy that can get his footing this year and grow in the program.

Not saying he wouldn’t be (although “by far” is hyperbolic AF). What I am saying is if you get Lanier then you can’t get Jaxson Robinson too. It’s gotta be one or the other, because there isn’t enough PT to go around.
Room for both because they play different spots but if he just take one take the first ready to commit. Robinson seems most likely to stay in the draft.

You think either of those guys will come off the bench?? 🙈

You’re ignoring all the guys we’ve already signed though. If we get Lanier, that pushes Brea to the 3. You think Brea is gonna be happy backing up Robinson?

Brea is a 3pt specialist who really doesn't bring another solid skill. If you can get a more skilled and impactful player, you take them all day. Brea can accept his role or not play.

I wouldn't say "you can't" get the other, but I would say that makes it very unlikely that you get the other. And if you got 2 guys at that level, then you almost certainly would lose someone (probably Brea or Oweh) since there is only 80 min total at the 2/3 spots.

Think you get one of Lanier/robinson,poplar/wells and then get a backup PF. And then they leave a spot open for a potential reclass guy like Riley or somebody after peach jam
This is where I'm at.

In order of priority

1) Consistent 3 level scorer who can get a bucket by themselves if the offense is stagnant.

2) 4/5 man who is fine not starting (preferably an underclassman) and brings something unique to the table. Important that they're a culture fit and want to compete. Someone that can come in for 5 or so minutes and play good energetic defense and play some on the perimeter is how I see this role.

optional 3) reclass guy who wants a headstart on college/NIL. Possible redshirt

I think Pope has about 5 or so guys and has told them the first out of this position has the spot and the first big has the spot. Then he might try to get one of the best future guys or leave one spot. I think he would be tickled with 12 guys this year.

Yeah, I think it's one or the other with Robinson and Lanier. Not saying I wouldn't love to have them both but it seems a bit unrealistic.

Lanier, Robinson and Achor. I don’t care who comes off the bench and who gets so many minutes. I would care more about having a great combination of talent at all spots. This is not a youth team where you are worried about hurting a kids feelings. If you can get them here you take them all. Robinson was Popes best player at BYU and came off the bench. It is not difficult to get about 7 guys starter minutes. If someone isn’t good enough to get into the rotation, then they will move on and be replaced.

I just saw where Pope wants a 3/4 that can score. I thought it would be easier getting a 4 that was a rebounder/defender. So who are the 3/4 good offensive players in the portal left? I think the Ahor guy is visiting AU this coming week. Would not be surprised if he commits there. Wells looks like he may be staying in the draft. Is Toppin possible? If it is more of a 3 then that pushes someone to the bench.

If coach has his choice of Robinson or Lanier, he is probably taking Robinson due to the fact that he knows what type of player his is capable of being. Lanier might turn out to be the better player of the two though.

Just by looking at the roster. Definitely need another PF. And Pope will definitely get one. Unless he plans on one of the SF playing the 4.

Robinson is better fit due to positional needs and familiarity with Pope. Robinson also seems more likely than Lanier to stay in the draft.

Lanier is better playmaker but we already have lots of guards. He was completely locked in to Tennessee until Kentucky got involved and would be a battle to get him here.

Either guy would be a huge boost to the team.

I’d say you’re right. Also, if it’s true and BYU just offered the guy from Illinois kid from overseas 2 million dollars, I could 100% see Robinson go there as well because he would get a big paycheck to. Of course we could match or even double if we wanted but if we get Lanier we’re good with shooting guards 2s/3s. Now We could be done after that and get a couple spot fillers like some are saying but I don’t think so. I’d say we would still go after someone who would absolutely compete with Carr as the starting forward and if it’s any of Achor, Toppin, Hawkins(a dream probably more than a get), they would all start day one with Carr off the bench. Who cares who starts anyway as long as they all get 10- 25 minutes a game. Maybe get an unknown to us yet as well. I kinda love not knowing right now because it’s making me dream big. Haha.

I could see Achor at auburn but they’re pretty stacked inside to me. I think he’s fit better here but we’ll see. Toppin is a guy I think we’d love to have and be perfect as well. There’s a few but they’re still a week or so away from knowing what they’ll do I suppose. Lanier and a guy inside and we’re golden. Some really good players will be coming back I believe. Too many of them trying for all to get guaranteed, that could be just what puts us over the top. Or at least in the top ten conversations. I think this roster as is a top 15 or better by the end of the year already. Thanks BBMan.

If we take Lanier and Robinson minutes are going to be tight if we play 12

The roster looks like it really needs another player to help Carr man the PF spot. Other than that, I'm good with the roster as is. I don't feel that the wings being mentioned are necessary, but as long as chemistry issues don't arise bring them in and let them compete.
