Assuming Barnhart can look past the crud, I think Pearl has a good chance at being the first call if Donovan and Hurley turn us down. Something tells me he'd make an attempt for Oats, but the $18mil buyout and mishandling of the murder could weigh against him.

That said, the buyout is pretty much understood to be a non issue if we're willing to throw $11mil a year at Hurley.

Because it's not a secret that he really wanted the job when BCG was shown the door. Out of all the other SEC coaches, Pearl usually has the most glowing praise for the program and respect for UK's tradition.

Plus, he's batshit insane, so he'd fit right in.

It might have to be him. But with our luck over the last two decades, he will probably have a heart attack on the floor in November next year.

Bruce Pearl will be 65 before next year is over. I see him as a stop gap who can MAYBE get us a Final 4. If we hire Pearl we need to be fully aware that the school needs to plan for a new coach (and an AD) in 5 or 6 years and start really making in roads along the way.

Providing we miss out on Hurley, Donovan, and Oats in the process, I would be happy with Pearl. Not my first option but I think he would fit right in with the program.
