probably the best all around perimeter AND post defender in the NBA right now.
So you're telling me that versatility is more valuable than the best rim protector in the league? Davis impacts the game/his team in more ways than anyone else out there.

Davis isn't the best rim protector in the NBA, Rudy Gobert probably is. And Green was a better defender this year. Had a higher defensive rating, more defensive win shares, higher defensive box plus minus, was the best defensive player on the top rated defensive team in the NBA.

Don't agree with AD bumped down, but whatever. Congrats to them both.

AD's surely making First Team All-NBA, though, right? Dude had like the best PER in years and got the Pelicans of all teams to the playoffs.

I'm not familiar with the defensive win shares statistic (nor how it's calculated), but I always look at the blocks, steals, rebs to peg a great defender, and in those areas, AD was superior minus steals 1.6-1.5. That said, I watched a lot of Pelicans games this season, and AD also passed the eyeball test to me, where as in the, admittedly, limited Warriors games I watched, Green was probably the guy I noticed 3rd or 4th on his team.

Using steals and blocks to determine if a player is good on defense is pretty flawed when we have a lot better stats now and sportVU data. Kind of like using fg% when we have Efg% instead on offense.

Yes. Draymond Green is probably the best on ball defender in the NBA against both bigs and perimeter players. That's more valuable that Davis providing help side blocks, which is what he mostly does. I think both Davis and Noel will be first teamers in the coming years because they not only block shots but also produce steals.

Absolutely. AD and Noel will be regulars on the all defense list for years to come. John Wall as well.

Are people on here seriously arguing that Green shouldn't have been 1st team all defense? He should have been DPOY. He was the best defender on the best defensive team in the NBA. There is literally no case to be made that he shouldn't be first team all defense. DeAndre Jordan on the other hand, shouldn't be first team at all and is borderline 2nd team worthy

Yea, Bogut and Gobert should have been 1st and 2nd team center probably. Gobert just swallows up anything that comes near the rim, Jazz started playing well when his minutes got bumped up.

I'm somewhat disappointed that MKG isn't on either of those lists. He's known as at least one of the top 10 defenders in the NBA right now.
That said, Green definitely deserves everything he gets as far as defensive accolades go.

yea well you would be one of the few on this board. the majority seem to go out of their way to diminish uk players in the league. Whether it is an obsession with espn or their own egos telling them that they are somehow above every other fan of every fanbase. Iv'e seen Wall called a bust here by many. Davis, Mkg, Kanter, Knight.

Green changes shots like davis does? psssst!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

your not smarter than other fans because you go out of your way to devalue your own players, nba "experts" . mkg is a bust because he does not put up 20 and 10 pssst!!!!!!!!!!

Pelicans had the 22nd best defense in the NBA with AD and Asik who is known as a defensive specialist. There's more to defending than just blocks and steals and Green was the best defender on the best defensive team in the NBA.

Really can't fault the list, those of you who watch NBA know guys like Allen, Green, etc. are legit and deserve their spot on the first team.

Davis changes a ton of shots, but hard-nosed defense is what gives Green the edge. Whether out on the perimeter, or down low, he plays tough defense, and that's why he deserves that award. Does he have a freakish wingspan? Not at all, but he plays excellent defense, and it forces misses.
It's not about the PER in this case. PER doesn't account for things like FG%, which is essentially what defense is all about. A blocked shot is worth as much as a missed shot. Is it more exciting to watch a player get 150 blocks in a season? Sure, but it's worth just as much as a player forcing 150 missed shots (which, as I said, isn't accounted for in PER).
Green is that guy that forces those extra 150 misses.

I am assuming you do not watch the NBA that much. Davis will get his, dont worry.
League pass actually, but didn't see a lot of western conference games, work early. Really only watched pelicans and mavs once they got rondo regularly in the west. Defensive rating and win shares don't typically make the highlights but seems I'm solidly in the minority here so I'll take your word on it.

Draymond Green is an exceptional defender that many thought should have been Defensive Player of the Year, ended up finishing #2 in the voting.
Draymond also had the most number one votes but some the analytic truthers left him off the ballot completely or put Jordan ahead of him which is inexcusable
