and you can choose Steph Curry or Anthony Davis as your first player to build the team around. Who do you choose?

I choose Davis

Davis and it's not even close. Steph Curry is a great player and may even have a chance at the Hall of Fame, but Davis is a transcendent talent. He will be the face of the league in 3-5 years.

Steph is electric and if he was my consolation prize is be giddy. But I'd take Davis too. Curry is 27 and in his prime. Davis is 22, he's a top 5 player in the league, and I still don't think he's reached his prime. Every year he's gotten significantly better. He affects the game in every way possible. Yeah he blocks 3 a game but how many points does he prevent that don't show up in the stats? My only reservation would be the fact that he's gotten hurt each year. Minor injuries, but still he hasn't played more than 70 games in his career. I think as he keeps bulking up and getting stronger, that could become less of an issue though.

Davis...easy call. Steph is awesome but I still worry his skinny little body will start taking a beating.

Curry may be my favorite player to watch right now because I like to see great shooters.

That said, it would take me about 3 seconds to take AD. Great player, only getting better & can & will dominate games from the middle.

No GM would take Curry over Davis- or anyone else either, for that matter. Not one.

For the next 8-10 years? Davis easily. He just turned 22 I believe and is a top 5 player. Curry was the deserving MVP this this year and is a top 5-6 player though. He's probably my favorite player to watch.

Davis, easily, and that's regardless of where he went to college.

First of all, he's just a better all around player. But he's also much bigger, five years younger, and the health/durability is a wash with Davis getting banged up occasionally and Curry's ankle problems.

I don't think there's a player in the league anyone would take over Davis in this scenario, actually.

Yea me either. If Durant was turning 25 instead of 27 this fall I could see taking him over Davis. If a team is just drafting for next 2-3 years then LeBron would still go #1 with a fully healthy Durant or AD going 2nd imo.

The real question is, "Besides Davis, who would you take?" It's just not close, he just had a historical season (look at his PER) and he's become a master of the midrange. If he adds a 3 ball, he is undisputed best player, period. And he's 22.

Others to think of though are Wall, DMC, Kawhi Leonard, That Greek dude from the Bucks (gIansnsnis Aismspspsotiotos), and maybe Andre Drummond. Big men and PGs tend to get a little more weight in these scenarios. Not nor was ever sold on Irving (not just because of Duke), he's just more hype than substance at this point.

A better question would be where would you locate your expansion team? I would put it in either Louisville or Cincinnati.

Seattle by a pretty wide margin. Unless you just mean where would I like for my team to play regardless of logistics or viability, then I'll go with another team in Miami.

The only change I have with this is that "prime" is probably closer to 29-31 for a guard, maybe a year or two less for a big, NOT counting injuries. Steph probably hasn't hit his prime yet, but Davis isn't even CLOSE to hitting his prime. In terms of "peaking", the top of the rollercoaster isn't even in sight yet for Davis. Not to mention, how much better can Curry get as a SG? The only thing left for him is to work on his defense.

Seattle had a team and lost it because they were unwilling to do what it took to keep it. The tax revenue generated by the team left with it. Louisville already has an NBA caliber arena. The City of Louisville should offer huge tax incentives for a team to relocate and play in the Yum Center. The tax revenue it would generate, not to mention the benefit of being viewed as a major league city, would be well worth it.

Wasn't it the owner/mayors fault that Seattle lost the team? I wouldn't put that on the fans.. They were distraught to lose the Sonics.

Damn. I only opened this thread because I thought I had finally been awarded an expansion franchise......this day just isn't getting any better.

Davis.

If you're awarded an expansion franchise, guess what type of guys are available for you to select from?

The underachieving and overpaid ones...guys like Roy Hibbert, Gerald Wallace, Eric Gordon, Joe Johnson and Deron Williams.

You might want to plan on losing for the first 5-7 years.

Just knowing that Rodney Dent was the 4th pick of the 1995 expansion draft tells you all you need to know about expansion drafts.

And that's the kind of thinking that leads to making dumb decisions. NBA is a guards league.

When you have a transcendent big, which Davis is, you take him over the guard every time. It's a no brained. Davis will be able to anchor your team on both ends of the court, much like transcendent bigs Shaq and Duncan. Hell, just like another great big in KG. Even if Curry and Davis were at the same point in their careers and the same age, no one in their right mind is taking Curry. It isn't even close.

Curry has truly magical talent, I love watching him play, BUT this question is a no brainer.

Curry is 27 years old, barely scrapes 6'3", and has average to below average athleticism for his position. Conversely, Davis is 22 years old, at least 6"10" (and possibly taller), and has utterly FREAKISH athleticism for his position. Curry's potential is tapped out, he can't get much better than he is now, whereas Davis' ceiling ain't yet been touched, he can still get plenty better.

The obvious answer is AD, anyone who says otherwise ain't very smart.

I would get them both and pay whatever, give up draft picks, and build the team around them, and lose my job and come make a ridiculous amount of money coaching college kids, hey I have been paying attention man ;)
