You vs Skal

Me and a buddy were having this argument today. If you played 1 on 1 against Skal and he spotted you 14 points in a game to 15 do you think you would win? No make it take it. Obviously this depends on your ability but I would think the average fan wouldn't even score once.

I'm 6'7" and 270. I could Charles Barkley big-butt him and shoot 1-14. I'd have no chance of stopping him though so if I don't hit 1 out 14 I would lose.

Yeah, because he wouldn't expect that at all. And it would be so easy to get shots off over a 7'0" guy.

If this was Anthony Davis, I would certainly say no. In fact, I don't think the average fan, or really, even someone who played lower-level HS basketball, would have much chance of even getting a shot off against AD if he was really trying. Maybe you throw up 30 foot hook shots, but AD could probably swat even those. Skal's lateral movement and burst isn't at the level of AD, so you might (might) be able to shake him just enough to actually get a shot off (though not likely to be a good one), and then maybe you get lucky.

Is he closely guarding me when I get the ball? If not, I would think I would have enough time to get a shot off from three as soon as I got the ball.

Depends on the person.

I played basketball and have good technique. I play in a league currently with a couple 6"9 guys that played for Murray state and Rice. I understand there's no comparison, but I could get off a look to take it sure.

I actually had the pleasure of playing Tony Delk to 5 by 1's (no make it take it) about 10 years ago. It went 5-0 Tony but I had my chances to score. Skal is young and I think it can be done. 1 shot.

Pretty hard to stop anyone with any ability at all 14-15 straight times.

Unless you have been to a game, some can't understand just how big these guys are. They are huge. They have so much length its insane. I could score a point if my outside shot is falling and I'm talking deep.

In my 20s, back in the Pennsylvanian Era, we played a regular Wednesday night game at some grade school gym. We were in our 20s and early 30s mostly. Non jocks just looking for exercise and an excuse to drink a beer later. One guy brought a friend who'd played JC ball around 10 years previously. It was absolutely unfair how much better he was than the regular crowd. People who are good enough to have made it to even that level are so much stronger and talented than us left-side-of-the-Bell-Curve guys. Plus they've been coached and, at some point, have gone through conditioning. I can't even imagine breathing on the same court as Skal.

Im 43 and I could beat him even if we had to go to 21. No joke. I would be sore, but I was know as baby Jordan on the playground. wink

I would back up until I was far enough that he agreed to let me shoot uncontested. Then I'd pray I hit 1 out of 14.

I've played against some high level college athletes before. I have no doubt I could score once with 15 tries. Then again I'm still in my mid 20s and play a couple times a week with a career that requires me to stay in decent shape.

No doubt the scenario gets more grey with 20 more years and few too many beers and burgers.

easily. it's not that hard to hit a 3 on 7 footers, I spent 4 years doing it. granted i've lost a step, or three, but the pure natural born shooting touch is the last to go.

I think I could draw a shooting foul and hit a free throw if that's a part of the game. What is amazing about players on that level is not how big they are, but how quick they are for their size. Played in a league with division 2 or 3 college players and had 6'7" guys picking my pocket like I was playing in slow motion.

This. When I played, I could have made lots of outside shots against him. I wouldn't even try to play defense. I would just let him score and get the ball back. Of course, that was 35-40 years, and two knee replacements ago. :cool2:

I`m to old now but back in the day I could. I scored on a ton of greats back then Wilt, Kareem, Willis Reed ,Nate Thurmond. We all played out in the back yard . They had nothing for me.

Pump fake
Get fouled
Hit FTs
Win game

Pretty simple if you've watched our teams since Cal has been coaching.
Yeah, genius, and have you also happened to watch Cal's teams put up the top 4 team blocked shot totals in UK history? And have exactly one season in which the opposition hit 40% against them?

What an incredibly idiotic comment.
