Wow, Shaka just said what everyone thinks

Intereviewed after a timeout.....

"There are a lot of fouls not being called. The team that will win is the team that fouls the most without it being called".
And ^ that right there is the biggest issue with officiating in CBB. If they want the sport cleaned up, the refs should be told to call it tight the entire year until the Bruce Pearl, Buzz Williams types realize you can’t manipulate the game by desensitizing the concept of what a violation is. It’s way out of control. Would the games be hard to watch for awhile? Yes, but it’s the only way to really clean it up

Another variable here will be when the constant fouls - and particularly the punchy-rapey ones --- lead to an ugly fight or bench clearing brawl

That seems inevitable to me

Toss in some taunting & crowds throwing $hit onto the floor (all of which we've seen in ample supply this season)

Suddenly you start to get ugly scenes on TV in college basketball - certain administrators and media members will immediately adopt the moral high ground (theres NO PLACE in college athletics for this sort of thing....)

And just as "court storming" became a dire threat and ugly trend (after altercations and some student injuries?) -- "physical basketball" may be regulated back & forced to become more reasonable

I know this is wishful thinking, but I wish the refs had to take questions during the post game interviews. Wouldn't it be awesome if refs had to answer for bad calls and bad non calls and video could be qued up showing said bad call? As it stands now refs can bw biased and or incompetent and there is no a countability

And Jay Williams said that he thought the SEC might suffer in the ncaat because they are used to fouling without it being called. And they won’t get the same whistle in the ncaat.

He's rarely right, but he's right here. That's happened with A&M every year under Buzz and it's happened to Auburn a few times. I wouldn't be shocked if the SEC really underperforms in the tournament relative to expectations.

Pitino Ball. I remember a Wake Forest fan was almost mad enough to fight UK fans at a sports bar after the hatchet job Pitino put on TIm Duncan. But we did beat them by about 30, so not sure it would have mattered in that game.
He doubled Duncan, don’t remember it being a “hatchet job.” I remember it being great strategy on Pitino’s part.

We should be fantastic then. We generally try to play without hacking and get hacked with no calls all year.

Which allows the most physical team at times dictate pace. Which is why every game some SEC official should be rewatching the game and taking notes and grading each official and they should sit down with them and go over that grade.

Yeah but what if they gave coaches one challenge and that’s the only time they go to the monitor. Would serve like a challenge flag. Rumored to be in the works and kills two birds with one stone, a very good thing
They would probably still have to go to the monitor for some 3’s foot on the line or a flagrant, if they actually do call the foul

Right but you get the idea. Meant to shorten the monitor times. Also puts some onus on the coaches to be accurate instead of crying about every call too. Some of the officiating issues are from coaches working the refs more than should be permissible. That will alleviate it as well. I think it would be a huge benefit to the game. I’m surprised someone like @Cold Stout Beer would be opposed if the game has been so poorly officiated on a regular basis.

I’ve said this same thing, but instead of grading, they would be FINED. Just not sure anyone would actually have the time.

I'm opposed to 3 hour games. Thought I made that obvious. You're too much for me, buddy. Time to "unsee" your posts. Good luck the rest of the way.

College basketball has completely abandoned the rule book.

You’re allowed five steps along with a “gather” step while switching pivot foots.

You’re allowed to ride somebody’s hip as a defender all the way up the floor with two hands on them.

You can use a lineman block while moving when setting a screen.

Your hand can now be under the ball when dribbling. A palm is welcome.

You can slide 20 feet across the floor having possession of the ball and it’s not a travel.

I can do this all night.

I do believe the Refs need a refresher course in basketball officiating.

Where is it coming from? Are they being TOLD to do this? Are they trying to mimic the NBA?

Don't people complain there are too many fouls as it is? If the refs called it tight like some posters want, every possession would end at the free throw line. Makimg yhe game longer and more boring than it already is.
