The fact remains that from a realistic standpoint, UK needs merely to get to a bowl game. The extra practice, the media exposure, fanbase reaction, and recruiting will all take a jump and help out the program immensely. Eight wins is doable. We were two plays away from seven wins last season. There is no reason not to expect Eight victories except for the fact that our linebacker depth is critical at this point, and our depth across the board, however talented, is still very young for the SEC.
We are still building regardless of what you people think. We are not at our peak yet. We do not have incredible depth yet. We do not have a program that can be predicted to get to Atlanta. If we lose starters anywhere besides WR and maybe QB, we are treading on thin ice. We are one or two plays away from playing freshmen at critical positions.
Be smart about this, folks. It is more than okay to root like crazy for these guys, but don't kid yourself. They've put in hours upon hours of work to improve themselves, but nothing they do is going to make a clone. The talent is there, the hard work is there, the will is there, the coaching is there, but the depth is not quite there yet, and neither is the experience. All works in progress, but I like the enthusiasm. Reach for 10, end up with 8. I'm cool with that.
