I'm not sure what Alford's relationship with IU is behind the scenes, but would seem like a no brainer to bring him home. He took the UCLA job 3 days after signing a 10 year Lobo extension so not like he wouldn't again.

Alford is kinda like what Iowa has currently with Fran McCaffery. Granted that's an upgrade over Crean, but they'd be disappointed with Alford. They expect to be MUCH better than Iowa. FWIW I think IU would be one of the few jobs he'd leave UCLA for because of his ties there.

IMO if IU wanted to look towards the Pac-12, they should look at Dana Altman at Oregon. Could also try Mark Few if looking towards the West Coast outside of the Pac-12, although he seems comfortable being the big fish in the small WCC pond.

I would think UCLA is a more prestigious job than IU, alma matter or not.

Maybe they are scarred bcuz he is a Bobby Knight product. IU seems to be shell shock because Bobby Knight was a controversial figure in our time of great political correctness.

I think it would be like us looking at Travis Ford. Not everyone in Indiana is a Steve Alford fan. He left a pile of crap behind in Iowa. He left New Mexico holding the bag. And they know they'd all have to show him love to get him to leave UCLA, and I don't think they're all ready to do that.

There seems to be a pattern for him... SEMO - Iowa - NM - UCLA. Anybody else notice it?

He seems to be getting away from Indiana as far as possible....next stop will be Hawaii.

Good thought. Go West, Young Man!

Although I think he will make a brief stopover at San Diego State (after that dirty, slimy Steve Fisher retires) before heading to coach the Rainbow Warriors. After that, he will finish his career by co-coaching the North Korean National Team with Dennis Rodman.

Alford is not well liked by anybody. I just don't see the AD giving him the job.

from what I read and hear a lot of people do not like Alford in IU. they do not give specifics only that he was hated at every place he has been by staff and media. now how they know this I have no idea.

sad part is that UCLA team is exactly the type of team IU fans yearn for. players who stayed with baby Alford shooting 3s. a team winning by playing solid D and hitting the boards.

just makes no sense to me why IU would not of brought back Alford. he's not the biggest name in coaching but he is a name you know. and IU is not UK, so us bringing back A Ford or Pelphrey would of been a huge mistake. UK is just on another level and offer the best of the best all the tools needed by a HC to get to their full potential.

Not sure why he would take a step down. UCLA >> than IU. Following behind creepazoid Creen would be easy enough though.

I don't know anything about Alford, but if he's loyal to Knight he wouldn't take the job unless Knight and IU make up.

I believe he was mentioned about the HC job when Crean was hired. Not an IU favorite for the job.
Sunny California vs Indiana. No brainer
