Worse coach that got two really good jobs

Tyrone Willingham, Will Muschamp
I can see Muscamp to a degree. But he was a very assistant coach and just failed at Florida and usc isn’t quite the top job imo

It willingnam was decent at Stanford and was brutal afterwards

Let's ask Joker Phillips. He'll have some idea, even if he only managed one.
I'd argue the UK job is in no hemisphere like the FSU job and not really close to Oregon IMO.

That dude got 2 pretty good gigs and was not a sterling resume leading up to those hires. Muschamp may be the only hire that can rival how bad a decision he was for 2 gigs.

I can see Muschamp (kind of) when Florida hired him. Now why he drove that program into the dirt, got fired and South Carolina said "I know, he got his ass kicked at Florida, let's bring him here and it will get better". I have no idea what whoever made that hire at South Carolina was but he was bad at his job to a really, really bad degree.

He was given responsibility for a winning football program and blew it. Thankfully, he wasn't paid like Jamie Dimon at Citi to do it. That's the biggest difference. Mel Tucker is stealing from MSU. Fools.

I can’t beat those already mentioned, but a complete clown that deserves honorable mention is that nit wit Butch Jones.

He twice took over winning teams after Kelly left and really did nothing with it. Then talked his way into Tennessee. Was laughably bad there. Then, after doing Saban’s laundry for a year he gets another head coaching job at Arkansas State (where after losing today to Troy by 30, will wrap up a 3-9 season).

Meh it happens. Ron Zook got some great jobs without much payoff. Muschamp has been brought up. Sarkisian keeps getting great jobs. They all must be great interviewers and in the film room.
Sarkisian is a great call.. USC job was gift he blew and then gets Texas gig after running with 3 NFL WR, NFL QB, NFL RB and how many NFL OLine in first round on his team. YOu could argue USC and Texas are top 10 jobs and he got both of them with a crap resume.

It’s a good ol’ boys club between head coaches and ADs. It’s much easier for a mediocre head coach to keep getting head coaching jobs than for a promising coordinator to get their first break as a head coach.

Ron Cooper scammed all three colleges that gave him a head job including U6. After going 1-10 in his final season, he threatened to sue UL for discrimination concerning his firing. U6 caved in and gave him over $1 million to drop it and go away.

Lane Kiffin is the king of “born on 3rd base (son of a famous NFL coach) and bragging about a triple.”

At age 31, LK was hired as head coach of Raiders in the NFL (sucked wind), Vols (for a 7-6 whisper) before he bolted for the USC-Sr Trojans (fired on the tarmac)…. Over to coaches’ rehab on Saban”s staff at Bama, then onto HC at FAU and now Ole Piss. In all that time, his only “championships” as HC were at the G5 level coaching FAU in the C-USA.

His latest deal announced a couple days ago will net him approximately $9mil annually. Not bad for a guy who is 1-3 in P5 bowl appearances.

GBB!

Willie Taggart was fired at Florida Atlantic today. Is there a worse coach who scammed two really good programs to give him a completely under deserved job

How in hades did he get Oregon and Florida st jobs?
I don’t think him being hired by either program was that big of a stretch. He took over a WKU team that was 1 year into FBS and coming off an 0-12 season and took them to a bowl in his 3rd year. He then goes to USF, who was 3-9 the year before he arrived and gets them to 10-2 and a top 20 finish in his 4th year. The fact a major program (Oregon) hired him at that point is not that big of a surprise. He was only there a year before going to FSU.

There are many better examples than him (I’m not even sure he is an example). Many of them already mentioned:

Lane Kiffin
Mel Tucker
Steve Sarkisian
John L. Smith - Arkansas hired him coming off a top 5 finish.
Rich Rodriguez - went 32-5 with Pat White and Steve Slaton. Went 86-78 at WVU, Michigan and Arizona without those 2 players.
Dennis Franchione - went 17-8 at Bama, then hired by Texas A&M, where he went 32-28.
Mike Riley - had 4 losing conference records in his last 5 years at Oregon State and got hired by Nebraska

Here are some guys that moved on to a job after failing at a major program that were wtf hires:

Charlie Weiss
Kevin Sumlin
Will Muschamp
