Only ways he would have been a statistically significant upgrade from Robinson were rebounding and name. Everything else is more or less a wash. Except, Robinson's advantage on defense is in the neighborhood of Poplar's advantage on the glass, plus Robinson comes in with two years of Pope's system under his belt which will be huge for team development.
I would have been happy landing either player. Robinson probably edges out Poplar in terms of our needs because of his familiarity with Pope's system, and at any rate I'm happy we've got him.
EDIT: Except it’s been a week since I was really thinking about this and I forgot the most important difference——Robinson was BYU’s leading scorer……Poplar was Miami’s FOURTH leading scorer. It’s possible Poplar would able to be just as efficient with defenses keying on him (like they were keying on Robinson), but frankly that seems very unlikely. Chances are that, all things considered, Robinson is a much, much better player at least offensively.
