WKU grabs UVA grad transfer Thompson

Stansbury has a knack for bringing talented players to regional programs.

Getting talent has never been Stansbury's issue...Player development and getting his team to get up and play together (for teams not named Kentucky) for 40 minutes, well that's a different story. (I had the pleasure of marrying an MSU grad, so I've witnessed many a Stans team letdown)

WKU sucked bad last year, 2 or 3 players arent going to put them over the top

It's more than 2 or 3. Last I heard there could be as many as 13 new faces on that roster next year! Stans has pulled in some high level talent. I believe he will have a 5* and four 4* on the roster this year to go along with Thompson from UVA, Mr. Basketball in Hollingsworth, and two other 3* kids. Rumor is they are one of the leaders for Kansas grad transfer Coleby. Talent alone should win CUSA. The coaching will determine how far the run is in the tourney.

I was listening to Bill King one day and he had Stansbury on for an interview, and stated that Stansbury had "a lot of success" against UK. I looked it up and Stansbury was 4-12 against UK. I tweeted Bill that I wished my boss defined success as a .333 winning %.

Stansbury is in a perfect position for his coaching set. Good recruiter, meh coach. Should be able to come up in Whatever conference WKU is in

Stansburys teams have given UK great competetion over the years we have had some battles with them and Texas A&M where he helped that program. I agree they will never be Final Four material but they will be tough.

Actually he is 4-13 vs UK which is .235 (4-12 would only be .250 btw)

But considering MSU is 18-87 alltime vs UK I guess .235 is 'success' considering all other MSU coaches were 14-74 for .159

Of course he got to have that 'success' against Tubby and BCG.

Western has been terrible for a couple years now. Stansbury is certainly recruiting well, but I've never been sold on his coaching. As an alum, I hope it works out for him. It would be good to see the Toppers get back to being a consistent CUSA contender.

That's been several years ago when I heard the interview, so maybe it was 4-13.

It is nice to see Stans bringing the talent to WKU. As a coach, I wouldn't expect to see them going to final fours anytime soon, but considering the dude is bringing legit talent to a small league that doesn't see a lot of talent, it should be expected to see WKU start destroying their conference and gaining a tourney bid. For WKU, what more could you really expect? Let's hope he sticks around at WKU and we see them in the NCAA tourney starting soon.

From what I understand BK and Stans & wife Meo have had some social get-togethers over the years, so Bill has always pumped him up.

I will say the only thing you could rely on to any consistency while Stans was at State was he would circle the UK game and have his team ready to play. Now Wednesday night home games against South Alabama or Troy were different matters all together. His teams regularly were beaten by those teams, who on paper had half the talent. Phil Cunningham was the best brains on his staff, and now he's the coach at Troy....so I'm anxious to see the level of success he has without a big part of his staff missing. It kinda reminds me of how Tubbys slides started when he lost guys like Mike Sutton and George Felton at UK. There was a lot of talk amongst some of Stans folks in Starkville that he was finagling for that LSU job at the start of last year, when he went into Louisiana and signed those big names, so it'll be interesting to see if he has any big success, how much loyalty he has to WKU and how quickly he conveys it into a bigger job.

Only 4 wins in 16 games is a winning percentage of only 25%.
