Wiltjer praises Cal

What can you say? He is the same person that was here and should be liked exactly as he was here. He helped bring number 8 to UK. He is a Cat through and through. Good to see him exceling. Hope to see him make some dough playing. I think he will.

Nothing pointed at you but I have heard several talk about Wiltjers' work ethic. I tend to believe an athlete at his level has a fine work ethic. I'd bet he is meeting goals he has set for himself. What may not be happening is he is not attaining what we as fans think he should be. You can argue he is not reaching his potential. He seems very happy doing what he's doing and how he is doing it. Let's be happy for him.

Does no one else remember, during our awful NIT season, that after a particularly epic ass chewing the team received from Cal on the sidelines, Wiltjer was seen to say "F him" about Cal as they broke and headed back on the court?
Wiltjer was a part of a championship team one season, then a part of the cancer that sent us to a first round loss in the NIT.

You must have never played sports. I have never told a coach f u to his face but have thought it and whispered it after many an ass chewing.

biggest problem with that team was

1. too raw
2. not stable, no consistency. Injury, sickness, and personal time. We lost so many players one time or another.

Just bad season, no reason to point to one particular player.

Do you mind telling us how many players at UK were part of more than one championship team? Not very many. You make it sound like one championship against one trip to the NIT is a bad thing. I'll let you in on a secret. If any one player helps us to one championship and one trip to the NIT, I will take a dozen please.

I will also take 4 championships and 4 trips to the NIT. That's just me. (As another poster stated; I doubt you have played many team sports.)

I'd like to hear the explanation of that one.

There is no explanation. Just a dumb statement.

Incredibly dumb...Cal wanted Wiltjer back, and was disappointed when he decided to transfer.

Is it possible to do that and at the same time wish he had applied himself harder while in Lexington? Yes, it is. And that's what we do.

Wonder how many folks on here crying bout Wiltjers work ethic are "Lard Butts" themselves...

Worked out for both parties. Glad he's excelling at Gonzaga. It's possible to have a good work ethic and not have pro aspirations. Personally, I just think he doesn't have the desire to do what it takes to be a professional athlete. I think it means more to his dad then him. For his time in Lexington, he helped bring home 8 and was apart of a bad team the following year. That team had no floor leader, bad chemistry, major injury, and flat just didn't fit well well together. It really wasn't anyone's fault, just the pieces didn't fall together like the previous years.

Wiltjer is being a class act, why don't some of you all do the same. He seemed to be nothing more than a good kid and good ball player. He's having a great season as many on here said he would.

He is skilled and talented. I love his game and his ability to translate it to the next level may well depend on which team he lands with. He won't be an all star but he could last for quite a while. Ask Dunleavy how a good shooting big can make a living in the NBA.

I think Kyle and Cal both saw the writing on the wall. If he'd stayed as a senior he would have been buried on the bench this year until Alex went out for the season. Instead he's starting on the 6/7th ranked team in the nation, leading them in scoring, and hitting 43% from the 3 line. Plus he's much closer to home. We can argue over whether their ranking is deserved, but there's no doubt Few is an outstanding coach. Kyle will probably get picked in the late 2nd round, or at the very least invited to someone's training camp given the season he and the team are having. There's no doubt in my mind he did the right thing for himself, and he's got a ring to cherish for the rest of his life.

Who cares about this traitor? I have more respect for players like Sheray Thomas and Ramon Harris, hell, even Jon Hood. Real Cats. Kyle Wiltjer is a Bulldog and will always be a Bulldog. There is no room for interpretation here. He is not a Cat. I understand he made the best choice for himself, or so he thought. I don't hate the guy for it, but to say we should treat him exactly as if he were still here is laughable.

I don't wish him all the best, because honestly, it doesn't matter to me. He's a Marvin Stone, Michael Bradley, Myron Anthony, Stacey Poole.

I think people are attached because he is a white guy on a national championship team. Kind of like how people kept following Michael Bradley's career, but not Myron Anthony.

Way to add to the discussion. Very constructive.

BUT, for your information I was not trying to be constructive to your post, I was seriously trying to be destructive. Especially now since you actually think what you posted was in anyway decent or acceptable.

It deserves a double...

Sounds like a post a Sakoff would make.

Oh, by the way, who was Myron Anthony?

Why is this the only board that allows people to say the absolute dumbest ish about our own players and former players? Are there not mods here?

All right. For a guy to claim fans still like Wiltjer because they are racists, that's just pure dumbacery. Wiltjer is doing well on a highly ranked team. His decision to leave Kentucky seems to be working out well for him. I think that fuels respect rather than derision from fans.

Wiltjer saw the writing on the wall. Gonzaga fit him better. Cal showed class in being supportive of Wiltjer, and Wiltjer is showing class in praising Cal.

And to also address those who say Wiltjer was not a hard worker, I don't know what to tell you. I thought he tried very hard to be a better player, I saw effort and improvement on defense during his last season. But Wiltjer was never going to be a defensive specialist, never going to be the type of player who creates his own shots. This is not meant to be derisive, but Wiltjer is the kind of player who gets open on the wing when the defense collapses on a player in the lane, gets the ball kicked out to him, and drains the 3. That's his game, in a nutshell. With the right surrounding cast, he's an asset, but without a good surrounding cast there's not much he can do.

I feel that Gonzaga is going to make a run come tournament time....If we have to play him.....I dont have much respect for him. I think if Cal wanted him and wiltjer said no, Im going to Gonzaga..... then there is something wrong....

Wiltjer may say nice things about Kentucky but look where he is at...Gonzaga.

Dont allow my post to add fuel to the stupid posts...just wanted to spin a different thought on the matter.
