willis vindicated...

Yeah he played well but I swear I've never seen a kid with worst luck on defense. Whoever he is guarding on the perimeter will throw up a 3 with Willis' hand in their face and they swish it, or bank it in cleanly from 30 feet like Canty.

I wouldn't say great, nor is he vindicated, but it was definitely a good game for him. I give Willis his props, he rebounded great today and played better defense.

Now let's see if he can consistently do it for the rest of the season because that's what this team needs from him; otherwise, although it might mean something to you as a Willis fan boy, but if he reverts back to his old self, then this one game means absolutely zero.

We all know one good game does not make a good player. Here's to hoping he builds off this game, and his new found confidence leads him to producing like this consistently.

Agreed,

That's one reason why i was disappointed in today's game. I thought we took a great step forward but then let it go with the last 10 minutes.

Willis played fantastic, if he can build on it. We can be solid team. Something has to happen with the interior 3.

Very good performance for Willis. Certainly hope he can continue with that type of play. However, like one of the posters above, it seems his man always seems to score. I have no idea what his +|- is but it would be interesting to know that stat.

Obviously all the threes in this game weren't scored against Willis; some of you just seem to be watching every thing he does while giving others a pass.

Once again, Willis gave up as much, if not more than he provided! He's soft and doesn't have the heart or basketball IQ to be a winner.

The 3's that were made by Willis man was off a pick and pop where our guard lost his man and Willis had to collapse to keep from giving up a layup due to our guard not playing the pick and roll right. It happened to the same guard 2 times and we gave up 2 3's as a result. I get frustrated with Willis's defense at times as well, but today he played good defense and those 2 threes were not on him.

I'm telling you guys, if he figures big into this team, we are screwed. We must defend the three and get some bigs scoring in the paint. Willis is simply incapable of doing either against good competition. He has never done it against good competition.

You are chasing fools gold.

I have no beef with Willis' defense tonight because nobody is perfect, and he was much better than usual, but this is wrong. That's not how you play pick and roll against a jump shooting team like Auburn. The main priority is the ball handling, jump shooting guard, not collapsing on the roller.

When Willis' man sets the screen for the ball handler, Willis should hedge the screen, slowing the ball handler down, giving him no room to get a jump shot off, allowing the other defender time to recover.

He's the only big we have who can stretch the defense. Watch Lee when he gets near the 3 point line. Doesn't have a defender within 10 feet of him.

Plus, Lee's a non-factor in the pick and roll / pick and pop. Put backs and dunks are all Lee's going to get.

Vindication has a ring of finality. So, no. What if next game he plays horribly? His coach has already said publicly he's getting more minutes than he should, simply because he has no options.....

Folks don't realize they set Willis up for failure over and over for just that reason.

I wasn't being negative towards Willis with my post. I believe he should play as much as he did today every game. I know he didn't give up every three. My point was that even when he's in good position defensively the guy he's guarding will throw up a contested shot and it still goes in. Then Murrays guy will be wide open half the game and go 1-5 from three.

Willis played a great game.. He had a double double.. He gave up 2 threes out of 12 made by Auburn. Your assessment of Willis is really bad.
He gave up alot more than that because others had to help because he was out of position! Just like every game. If he plays major minutes, we will go nowhere!

Until he has to matchup with an athletic wing or a legitimate SEC big and you realize why so many were so down on him in the first place.

I've got nothing against Willis. Think he can contribute in spots. But he's an atrocious defensive player and on a good team he's not playing more than 10-15 situational minutes a game.

Willis played 31 minutes and he produced. It was good to see. I don't I have ever seen him attack the boards like he did today. Like I have been saying for 2 weeks. Willis needs to start. Ulis and Murray are the ONLY threats to score with the current starting 5. Willis would give you a 3rd. IMO it is past time to put in Tai.... he could not be any worse than the post production we have now. Surely he can be physical and get rebounds. I am sure he shoots FTs better than Lee. Cal needs to pull that trigger. Arkansas is going to be a battle. They will be extra fired up because of us taking Monk. We better bring it or we will lose back to back.
