In Cauley-Stein's 3 years here, he has amassed 199 blocks, 95 steals, and 518 career rebounds. He is one of only eight players in program history He is the eighth player in UK history to total 100 or more blocks, 75 or more steals, and 500 or more rebounds in his career.
The seven other players to achieve the 100 block, 75 steal, 500 rebound plateau in program history are Jules Camara, Reggie Hanson, Chuck Hayes, Walter McCarty, Tayshaun Prince, Kenny Walker, and Terrence Jones.
With just one more block, and 5 more steals, Willie Cauley-Stein will become the first player in program history to have 200 blocks, and 100 steals in his career.
He has had a very fulfilling career, and despite being the only non-McDonald's All-American that sees regular playing time, he has achieved so much with only 2 and a half seasons under his belt. He's improved significantly on both ends of the floor. Far and away the best defender in the country, and he's now showing some smooth moves in the post. This season he's shown an intensity that we haven't seen from him before, not nearly as enigmatic as he was in the first couple of season.
Aside from improving greatly as a defender, as I mentioned, he's beginning to show smooth post moves, passing better, and even beginning to get a jumper. if he were to come back for another year (and despite his spectacular season, this is not out of the realm of possibility, because this is Cauley-Stein we're talking about), we could be looking at a very, very special and versatile player, and not the enigmatic raw athlete that we seen coming into college his freshman year.
But anyway, congratulations to him for achieving all that he has at UK. He's been through the highest of highs and the lowest of lows in his career, and will earn his place in the history books of Kentucky basketball. Figured I would share this with all of you.
