He'll be in the 2 deep at tackle from day one!Originally posted by Comebakatz3:
A 4/5 star OT can probably play early just about anywhere he wants.
Antonio Hall was a 5 star recruit, who bellyached the entire time he was at Kentucky. Reynolds, another 5 star, never played in a significant game. Which goes to show that stars have limited value predicting upsides of offensive linemen. Garry Williams, 1 of the better UK offensive linemen in recent history, was a 2 star coming out of Seneca high school. Jervontius Stallings, 1 of the best redshirt freshmen on our team, is a 2 star offensive guard. Stoops has shown his chops as a recruiter, but the offensive line is always the hardest nut to crack. Willie Allen already has at least 15 offers including Alabama, LSU, Notre Dame, and Florida State. As Stoops said during his last presser, Kentucky is fishing in the right waters. But Allen is unlikely to end up at Kentucky, and there would be no guarantee that he would play if he did. Playing time must be earned in practice competition. They key to building an SEC offensive line is to recruit lots of big bodies with good feet, develop them in a nutrition and strength program, and have good competition for playing time. It isn't about recruiting 1 big name. It is about recruiting lots of hard workers with projection in their big bodies.Originally posted by Lost In FL:
How many times have we had two or more 4-star OL in a game at the same time?
Going through Rivals back to 2002, the only 4stars we've gotten:
2002 - Yancey Reynolds - I know he was injured, so not certain if he played
2004 - Micah Jones - played sparingly, battled injuries, left during rJr year IIRC
The other "big time name" that I recall is Antonio Hall.
(not saying stars are the "be all", 3-star Larry Warford turned out pretty good)
And it didn't hurt that Dicky's father had played at UK and he was out of St X high school. Dicky, Sr. is one of my all time favorite Cats.Originally posted by Deeeefense:
We never seem to have much luck recruiting Louisiana. Dicky Lyons is about the only player I can think of off hand that we recruited out of that state, came here and produced in any meaningful way. I think our time is better spent in other states.
No one has much luck getting top kids out of Louisiana, Bama has gotten a couple the last 3-4 years, USC got one a few years ago. I suspect it will be even tougher with Ogeron, or ever how he spells his name, there now.Originally posted by Deeeefense:

Me too, but I thought he was an Ole Miss lean.Originally posted by UK!!!:
I really doubt he comes to UK, but I hope he does.
Interesting subject. Cobb is best example of an underrated Kentucky recruit overachieving. James Whelan, Glenn Holt, Derek Abney, Tim Masthay, Myron Pryor, Trevard Lindley, Garry Williams, Marcus McClinton, Derrick Locke, Jeremy Jarmon, Jacob Tamme, Keenan Burton, Steve Johnson, Braxton Kelley, Wesley Woodyard, Danny Trevathan, Zipp Duncan, Matthew Smith, Ryan Tydlacka. Their stars did not predict their impact.Originally posted by jauk11:
"Garry Williams, 1 of the better UK offensive linemen in recent history, was a 2 star coming out of Seneca high school" not only was one of our better OL in history he had a good NFL career AND was only a 5.1 two star coming out of high school. Those were two of the most underrated recruits to ever play at UK. Locke, a 5.2, Trevathan at a 5.3, Lindley a 5.2, and even Cobb at a 5.5 were just a few of the many overlooked and underrated recruits that were coached up to give UK more success than we should have had in the SEC based on our recruiting classes.
