Was thinking about this the other day, but the theater shooting happened in lafayette, home of the rajin cajuns. Any possibility we will do anything to show our respects?

I think that would be a very classy gesture, even if it's a moment of silence before the game.

Would love to see this happen. Hopefully we do something pre-game to pay our respects.

Honestly, I don't think that it would be fitting for the occasion. It had nothing directly to do with the university, and we are trying to get people pumped for football games. What happened there was bad, but it happens everyday. I really don't want every sporting event turned into a depressing reminder because I turn to sports to get away from the news and other depressing things in life.

Its just about respect though. Its not like we are going to be sad the whole game because of a moment of silence. Plus it would go a long way.

The only reason I would say no is because neither of the fatalities were ULL students (I don't think any of the injured were ULL students either) and it will be 2 1/2 months after the incident. If it were associated with the University, I could see it, but not in this situation.

Where do you draw the line on what events deserve the proper respect and how it should be delivered? What about the marines who were shot in Tennessee?

You can personally coordinate a prayer vigil before the game or something similar for the people who want to participate. This isn't something that UK Athletics should coordinate.

There are two degrees of separation between me and one of the people that was wounded in the theater in Lafayette a few weeks ago. With respect to the OP, it's a noble, thoughtful gesture. However, I agree with others that's it not appropriate for the UK-ULL game since it didn't occur on the ULL campus. That being said, if something like this is indeed part of the pre-game ceremonies, then so be it.

I see what youre saying but theres a huge difference between it being in the same city as the campus and part of the name of the university vs a whole state college. Knoxville would be different. But i see what youre saying.

I don't know if its something that should or shouldn't be done at a sporting event 5 states away. If anyone wants to have a moment of silence at their games I certainly wouldn't have an issue with it. But I am just not sure the CWS is the appropriate location. Not knowing the UK campus so I don't know if this is possible, but something pregame that is well publicized with both fanbases at an outside meeting place near the stadium would be a better idea. That way it would be optional and only the ones who feel a need to do it, the ones who don't feel its an intrustion on their gameday experience can avoid it. But I would be fine with it pregame in the stadium, at an outside setting near the stadium or none at all.
