15 losses last year. Unranked preseason.

Me thinks they're going the way of San Francisco, Houston, unlv, etc.

UConn became the primary destination for NYC/NJ talent in the 90s, supplanting Georgetown, UNC and St Johns. Every year after they've won a title, they've been hot garbage. As long as New York kids want to play for UConn, they'll be relevant.

I don't know what you are talking about. UCLA in the 60's?

I hope they are crap forever.

So if they're complete trash this year like they're projected to be, then well know that last year wasn't a fluke?

Navy moved me to Rhode Island, so I sure as heck hope that Uconn is irrelevant for as long as possible. I have already gotten some flack from some Uconn fans - -"You can't beat us. We own UK."

It's hard to gauge UConn. They sometimes make runs when you least expect it. Ollie is a good coach. As far as if they'll ever be relevant again, they're arguably the most successful program over the past 2 decades. They're pretty relevant right now. They just need to join a real conference.

They tend to have Cal and Co. figured out, beating us twice for a National Title. Not a real good post. They tend to over achieve when you least expect it and Ollie is a solid coach. UConn is here to stay my friends.

Transition year last year. Lost 80% of their starting lineup and production from 2014. Even though they had boatright, who was a great player, he wasn't a true point guard or leader and lacked team chemistry. It was most definitely a disappointing season but this coming up year uconn should rebound and be a top 20ish or better type team this year.

Added sterling Gibbs to solidify the pg situation along with top 30 incoming freshman Jalen Adams. Picked up Shonn miller who will be great add for the front court as uconn struggled mightily up front last year. Amida was unable to weight train prior to last season as he was rehabbing from shoulder injury so he should be improved this year. If Purvis plays like he did the last 3rd of the season UConn backcourt will be among the best in the country.

They lacked depth and a true PG last year. Ollie filled all those holes and return everyone but Boatright and Samuels (not huge loss). He already has Alterique Gilbert (top 35) committed for next year and is in a great position with Diallo and Gilbert.

They are also beefing up their OOC scheduling while being stuck in the crap AAC. They finished a new basketball facility and the state has invested $2 billion in the school for a new science research facility in an attempt to get into the BIG or other power conference.

Located within 2 hours driving of NYC and Boston. They will reman relevant especially with Ollie at the helm.

Don't overlook UConn this year basing it on last year team

To me, this is a silly post. UConn ain't going anywhere. Will they win another title anytime soon? Who knows. They seem to always sneak in there when no one is expecting them to do much and win it all. I'm not really worried about UConn owning us lately. It was different coaches beating our cats. Ollie looks to be a decent coach with a bright future in head coaching. I never really had any problem with their fans so I won't speak bad of their program. I do want to face them in the tourney in the future to get some revenge for our recent defeats.

Considering the fact they own us, this is one program we shouldn't talk ish about.

Typical awful post from you.

To me UConn could go either way.

Calhoun built a great program, so it's not going to fall apart overnight.

However, the AAC is a mid-major conference now and that does not bode well for UConn staying an elite program. It will be harder to recruit against the ACC, Big Ten, and Big East programs playing in that conference. Just not enough marquee matchups.

It will be tough for Ollie to keep them in the national spotlight. Can they stay relevant as a national power playing in the AAC? That is the big question.

Guess what...

Indiana went 4-1 against us from 86-90 and won a title.

Went 6-2 against us from 71-76 and won a title.

The shortsightedness from rafters never ceases to amaze me.

Going to be tough being in a mid major conference, but if Butler can make two straight title games out of the Horizon and come literally inches short of winning a title on a buzzer beater from halfcourt, then UConn can certainly be relevant.

It will be interesting to see. UCONN has the potential and the resources to remain good, but so did UNLV in the 90's.

A coaching change makes a big difference, and Ollie could go the way of Tubby (first year head coach wins a title, downhill from there).

But he could also stay relevant.

Hard to say at this point.

They gone! Ollie is an absolute clown of Creanish proportions. How long until they actually make the tournament would be a much better question.

An Uncle of mine lived in Conn. for several years and donated money to UConn... ESPN has a strong relationship with UConn... to go along with their obvious relationships with Duke and UNC. Not to mention ESPN and UConn got caught cheating in recruiting by taken pre arranged tours of espn.

One day UConn will join the ACC and it will be in the next 10 years and ESPN will have a major hand in it. I know they were pushing for a UCONN spot behind the scenes the last time around.

They're finished as a major mens basketball program. They'll become a Memphis kind of team now - a team that can cause some problems depending on the matchup, but ultimately will not finish in the top 25.

Uconn is done. You will not compete for championships in the AAC, period.

Uconn will fall off the map quick if they can't get into a conference (can't). Their new big game of the year is Memphis. Lol.

I'm embarrassed this thread is on our boards.

Me, too. Makes us look like Kansas fans who take shots at UK- who owns them.

UConn has knocked us out of the tourney 3x in the last decade. They have kept us from two national titles.

We should probably shut up about the Huskies until we actually beat them.

Uconn just missed on a few recruits and Ollie is definitely overrated to some extent. But they are gunning for the 40-50 ranked players who will be solid come Junior/Senior year. They aren't pushing as hard for the OADs. They know it's an uphill battle for those guys, and they know what conference they are in (or particularly, what conference they aren't in).

Still think Ollie is a good coach. He's young and black. Some players want that. We won't see him win an outright title at Uconn, as 2014 was Calhoun holdovers.. but they will win their fair share of Sweet16's and Elite 8's.

As much as I hate to say it, count UCONN out at your own peril. That's a hoops "factory" up there in men's and women's basketball and they'll stop at nothing to keep winning. I once told someone that if there was a nuclear war, Jim Calhoun would be one of the first to crawl out from under the rubble. Only retirement could stop the guy and it's about the same for that program. The maddening thing is they can stink it up for a couple years and then come out of nowhere and win the whole thing which they have done twice since 2009. I remember in November 2009 Duke and UConn faced each other for the Pre-Season NIT title. UCONN had Kemba Walker, Stanley Robinson, Jerome Dyson and Oriakhi. (They had won several in a row over Duke counting the 1999 NCAA Final and 2004 National Semi-Final.) Duke really hammered them in the second half, took a 20 point lead and won by 11 and that UCONN team surprisingly did not make the NCAA'S despite having some good talent. A year later they bring in Shabazz Napier and Jeremy Lamb to join Kemba Walker and I'll be damn if they don't win the 2011 National Championship in one of the ugliest and worst played title games ever. (Did Butler even hit 10 baskets in the second half??)
They're 4 out of 5 in Final Four trips. UGH!)I was so glad when they lost in 2009 at the Final Four because I wanted them to know how it felt to finally lose in a Final Four as it shouldn't be that easy in winning it every time you get there.

They've taken a title each from Kentucky(2014) and Duke(1999) and there is no doubt in my mind that Kentucky wins the title in 2011 vs Butler and Duke wins the 2004 title vs Ga Tech(a team they have just flat out owned in the ACC) had they beaten UCONN in those National Semi-Finals and advanced to the big game.

Bottom line, UCONN is like a vampire, every time you think they are dead they regenerate to go at it another round.

Wcc31, you said Kentucky has faced them three times in the NCAA'S in the last decade. I'm struggling to remember the third meeting. Did you guys play them in the 2006 NCAA'S maybe?

An additional comment on UCONN. Like many, I used to post on the old AOL sports boards back in the late 1990's. 1999 was UCONN'S first ever Final Four going up against a team on it's 12th FF trip and I remember when their fans were showing up in droves going into that title game and running their traps and many of us were using the term "UCAN'T", not only was the joke on us but little did we know what an absolute royal pain in the ass they were about to become over the years.

I hesitate to call any program "done" just because they had a down year last year. They still have 4 titles and 5 Final Fours since 1999. Of course, none before that, but that does not really matter going forward if they are able to keep going to them on occasion, and maybe winning one here and there. I do not think they are going to win 3-4 titles the next decade and a half, but would not surprise me if they make a couple final fours, and even win a title.

There are some difference. New coach.. crappier conference. I don't think Ollie is going to repeat the success of Calhoun. And while that conference will give them more wins, they will never have the SOS/RPI/BPI as the power conference teams. It's also not the Big East, which was a battle every outing, figuratively and literally. Playing in that conference definitely helped come March and April... much more than the AAC will ever prepare teams.

Kind of in the middle on this one. No reason to count them out, but no reason to assume they will be the same Uconn of the 2000's and 2010's.

Have a feeling they end up in another league one of these days.

Probably. But at the same time, their football program is hot garbage. They had like 2 good years at the turn of the decade, I think Donald Brown was their star running back. Not sure where they are going to go. If they don't take football seriously, that limits where they can go. And if that's the case, do they really want to go to some dying conference?
