Wichita State joining the AAC next season

Might be*

Just means a few more regular season losses getting out of that dookie conference and going to a little less dookie conference.

Remember when the MVC used to get three or so teams into the tournament regularly? If Wichita State bails that'll be two tough defections (Creighton left for the Big East years ago) for the conference.

Would make it the 7th best conference in college basketball behind the SEC, B1G, B12, Big East, PAC, and ACC by adding the shockers, IMO.

They could easily send 4 teams to the NCAAT annually.

Would be a 12 team conference with Temple, UCONN, Memphis, Cincy, Houston, Tulsa, UCF, SMU, Tulane, ECU, SMU, and Wichita St.

I think its good for basketball. Small programs move up and create more competition at the top, making the NCAA a lot deeper. It also gives room for smaller programs to develop now that the big dogs are out of their conference.

I've always wanted my Murray State Racers to move to the Mizzou Valley Conference for better money and competition.

That's the history of that conference. People come, people go, and no one seems to want to stay. Pretty much the entirety of what used to be the Big 8 started there, if you go back to the early 1900's. Then UL, Cincy, Houston, and Memphis State all came and went.

This makes me wonder if Gonzaga is going to look to make a move. The little guys who take basketball seriously are all finding ways to upgrade. Creighton and Butler got into the Big East, now Wichita State is doing this. The natural fit for the Zags would be the Mountain West, if that conference would allow them as a basketball-only member. Wouldn't be a huge upgrade, but still, we're talking much larger schools with a lot more resources than what you see in the WCC.

Well damn. Will get a lot tougher for Temple to make the NCAA tournament. But will be another good game to go see!

Excellent move for WSU.

Exactly. The MVC will struggle to survive and get one team in.

Would be the best thing to do, at least for basketball. In basketball they have clearly outgrown the conference. Don't know a lick about the rest of their sports.

And in other news, Tubby is in backdoor talks with The university of Martin.

Don't forget about SMU as well.

memphis made an uninspired hire with tubby. they were probably better off sticking with pastner

thought the same thing when temple hired dunphy, but he had a good 3 or 4 run. now he's approaching 70 and the program is declining. nova's 'ship legitimized their entire league, but also greased the slide into obscurity for temple (and st joe's)

the AAC needs KO to right the ship at uconn, too

Not a fan of the move. I mean, it's a good move for WSU, more East Coast exposure I suppose. I've always enjoyed Arch Madness and the Shockers were a part of that reason.

I don't believe it for a second. Football is what is causing all these changes, not basketball. There are many more schools better suited for that conference than Wichita St.

Good move, their conference definitely didn't help them get a decent seed this year (even though they were pretty tough).

Wonder who the MVC may try to grab to replace Wichita State? It's possible they reach into the Horizon League or the OVC? The only two teams that stand out to me left in the MVC are Illinois State (which narrowly missed the tourney this year) and Northern Iowa.

I mentioned SMU in my post. You must've missed it.

Wichita really makes the AAC respectable. Having 7 conferences in college basketball will help make seeding more accurate by giving us a better sample size from the previous small conference "star" teams.

Now if we could only get Gonzaga in one of those 7...
