There was a video on ESPN yesterday of Andy Katz giving his 5 title contenders at the moment. They were:

Kansas
Maryland
Michigan State
UNC
Oklahoma

and he added Miami

3 of those 6 lost last night.

That's why college basketball can't be predicted, and why making rash predictions ends up making a person look foolish. Not saying one of those 6 teams can't cut down the nets, but I'm also not going to say UK or any other team that's a 10-seed or higher can't do it either.

Especially this year.

This season is reminiscent of 2012-2013 where UL won the title. They were a good team, with particularly solid defense, but still had 5+ losses and the easiest tournament path (maybe ever) in recent memory to win the title.

If the coaches can get Skal to 80% of what we/they hoped he would be, and the rest of the guys keep improving, we'll be in the chatter.

Good day.

You said it. UL had a particularly solid defense. Something UK this year doesn't even resemble having. Until this team improves on defense and finds a frontcourt, they will continue being inconsistent. Inconsistent gets you beat in March.

Before the season started when we were still recruiting some of the bigs that we missed on several here said we would be weak in the front court if we had to play with what we had.

Now we are midway in January and if we play a team with just average to slightly above average bigs we are in trouble. We have gotten less than 10% of what we thought we would get from Skal, average wise I think we have gotten about what most expected from Poy and probably a little more from Lee and Willis. No other big can seem to find the floor so we have to think that they have less to offer than the ones playing.

We aren't going very far with this front line, just take the wins we get, hope for a favorable match-up in the draw we get to make the second week end of the NCAAT and wait till next year.
