Why no team USA in the FIBA tournament in Mexico City?

The tournament starts this week but why don't we have a team in the tournament?

Team USA clinched an Olympic berth by winning the FIBA World Cup last summer, so they don't need to participate.

Exactly. The defending world cup champs are awarded an automatic bid to the next Olympics, they don't need to qualify, so we decided to sit this one out.
