Why is Maryland suddenly everyone's darling?

This isn't one of those threads whining about people not giving us credit or respect. I've just noticed that the non-partisan sports folk seem to be fully on board the UM bandwagon, and I'm not really sure why. They have a fine team, but nothing special IMO. I guess it's that they bring back Trimble to go with a couple transfers and Diamond Stone. Thoughts?

Not a traditional powerhouse, blue-blood program? Perhaps people want to see them succeed because they aren't Kentucky or Duke or Kansas or Unc. I'm not sold on them, personally. I suspect they are a decent team, but top 3? I don't think so.

Because they are this years random team to pimp in the early season. If the media didn't do this it would become obvious that CBB is a 4 team sport with regards to the nations interest level during the season.

Still weird they are actually a coastal state and not in the coastal conference.
