Why do players not want to play for the team they grew up cheering for?

Tom Brady grew up a die hard 49ers fan. Went to games. Joe Montana was his favorite player.
His dad was a big fan.
Even though Brady has his own choice to play wherever he wants, I've never heard anybody mention him going to play for the 49ers.

If I had a chance and I was a pro player there's only one damn team I would allowed to draft me and if they didn't I wouldn't play. That's the Green Bay Packers.
If I was a free agent it would be the Green Bay Packers only.
I hate all other teams why would I ever want to play and help them?
No amount of money would change my mind.
I would assume since Brady was like pick 199 of the six round that the 49ers had a chance to draft him. They didn't. And he turned his back on them.

I seen the video where they were asking Tom Brady about having to sit there and wait to get drafted and how his mom and dad were there. And it was embarrassing to him that he didn't get picked till the very damn end and he seen his mom cry. He started crying talking about it.
And well now you know what happens when you light a fire in someones heart.

Moral of the story:
Always draft players that grew up as your fan and never make a man's mom cry in front of him. You will pay.

Playing time, coaching quality & their schemes, minds can change
A true fan that grew up watching the team. You never turn your back on your team.
Coaches playing time schemes don't matter. Playing for your team matters.

But it said team doesn't draft you when they have a chance and you have to sit there and see your mom cry because you weren't getting drafted till pick 199......well Then you go on a 25-year run taking it out on the NFL.
And he almost retired. And then he said no I still need to make up for my moms tears some more assholes!!

His money is worth 50% of what the contract says if he plays for a Cali team instead of a Florida team. Taxes, cost of living, and quality of life are all good reasons not to play for the 49ers.

The question is- Why didn't the 49ers step up and trade for him as a draft pick or a player?

Go where you are valued. The NFL is a business. That's all you'll hear from them down the road as a player, so treat it like a business from day one AS A PLAYER.

I think he liked Bruce Airian's offense and him as a coach. The Bucs had a good team that was ready to compete, I think that was as important as anything else. He was tired of playing with a patchwork offense, they won plenty but he had to carry a lot of the burden to produce.

I thought this was going to be about HS kids picking colleges...
Nooooope. I was high and I was watching a documentary about Tom Brady.
Why? It just happened to be on lol. And I thought it interesting that Tom Brady loves the 49ers but never played for him.
And Aaron Rodgers loves the 49ers and he never played for them.
The two best quarterbacks are both 49er fans. Probably why Rodgers always loses to them.

Couple years ago the Washington Redskins quarterback Taylor Heinicke, who grew up a Packers fan, does the Lambeau Leap… and it turns out he didn't even score on the play. But the troll job backfired — in spectacular fashion. It turns out Heinicke's knee hit the turf with the ball just short of the goal line. Heinicke wasn't tackled. He just dropped half yard short of the goal line with nobody around him. Then got up and ran and did the lambeau leap like he scored!!!
Thank for losing for us bro!!!

I don’t think (had I had a chance) I could have ever played for UT.

Bama?

That would have been the tough choice.

I think I would have worn Blue, anyhow. Now, how to turn back the clock and gain that level of talent??

There’s a big difference in a fan’s fantasy idea of playing pro sports and the actual business of being a pro athlete
That would eliminate California, New York or any New England team for me. It is a business when you draw a paycheck and when you are married with a family you have to take that into consideration also.

I’d pay for Louisville if they offered me more money that UK😂
It’s all about the money baby. Being a fan is great and rooting for a team is awesome but it don’t cash the checks.

After he was set and established as the Patriots QB, they went after his backup who was destined to be a forever backup if he stayed in NE. Hasn’t worked out too well. Garopalo kinda sucks.
I’m a Niners fan.

They win with him. That's a fact.

And I think it's kind of weird that Tom Brady's favorite team was the 49ers and his backup gets traded to the 49ers. Lol. Ironic.

all the 49ers need to do at this point is make sure they make the playoffs and get to play Green Bay and they'll make the super bowl. Lololol. I hate the 49ers with the passion of 10 fans

Yeah, they do win with him. can't complain about that. just when you grow up watching and idolizing Montana and Young, he comes off as a bit underwhelming. He gets them to the playoffs, but can't win a Super Bowl.

I think I would have played my College Ball as QB1 for the USC Trojans….so much history there. Love my Cats but the chance to play there would be to strong. Between the Rose Bowl, cheerleaders & Sunshine it would be a prefect fit. Maybe just the era I grew up in. 🤷🏼‍♂️

There are a lot of reasons. Let's put this in another perspective.

Let's say Tom Brady was a huge Detroit Lions fan.......grew up watching them, had jerseys, loved them and will always love them. The Lions are a very poor organization from the owners, to the front office, to the coaching staffs, to the player personnel........and it's a chronic problem. If Tom fought like crazy to play for the Lions since day one, would he be a first ballot HOF with many SB rings? HIGHLY DOUBTFUL. Honestly, his career would probably be more like Stafford. If he was lucky enough to remain healthy (or even lucky enough to start at all), he would've put up respectable numbers and not won much.
