looked like he was just celebrating with ullis amd murray after murrays dunk but inwas at game and have not seem replay. Can anyone shed some light? It was same ref
That teed cal up.

It was for slamming the ball down. If you are going to do that you need to catch the ball before it goes way up in the air. It's always been that way.

yeah - but what was odd is that they didn't actually call the T until he walked over to Murray and shoved him (in fun of course)

Wonder if they decided to get him for excessive celebrating or something - did they call it taunting maybe? I don't know

It is a delay of game, automatic technical foul. It's a fairly new rule, I think they started to really crack down on it about 15 years ago. If he would have slammed it hard but caught it then it probably wouldn't have been called. But when a player slams the ball into the air, the rule is that it's a delay of game, automatic technical, in college and the NBA.

This. That's why I found it strange. If the call was immediate, I wouldn't have had an issue.

It appeared to me he slammed the ball down hard and missed it coming back up... it also looked as though he was explaining that during the free throws...

Because the official is an idiot! I think the other two officials will ask their superiors to never be in the same crew with him again! He called four technicals and only one was needed! That was the second one on Cal. Which wouldn't have been needed if he had not called the first one!

Sirmons said "oh no, the crowd is forgetting about me. Here, let me show these damn kids who the real star of this game is! Did I bring a new Sharpie for all those autographs I'll be asked for after the game?"

Him slamming the ball down was him putting his own exclamation point on the win. They agitated him a few times during the game (knocking it out of his hand after the whistle, throwing it off of him, etc.) and that was his way of saying EFF you.

If you watch it again he wasn't going to call anything after the ball was slammed down! I don't think Sirmons even noticed it. He called it because we were celebrating and having fun! He needs to go to the NFL

Should have just went over and hugged/chest bumped/gave a high five and no problems. That is one issue this team has had a number of times. Getting technicals for dumb plays. We can't afford something like that in a close game late. Since Ulis was coaching the offense I wonder if he yelled at him after it? [laughing]

Doesn't matter. It's supposed to be automatic. That ref sucked, but this was the last controversial thing all day.
Actually its controversial because the technical was not called until he walked over and pushed Murray. The ref stared at him the whole time and waited a good 7 seconds before calling it.

this. unspoken rule imo. it went through his finger tips off the bounce because he was looking up. he just lost his concentration a second. an odd way to get a tech.

The ref probably forgot to blow the whistle when he slammed the ball down, he then watched Briscoe to see if he celebrated any more at all. The shove was all it took. The video clearly shows him signal the technical before Murray recovered from the shove.

I wish somebody would T up Doug Sermons for his atrocious officiating. I thought Doug Shows was bad. What is it with refs named Doug and UK?

That was probably the least controversial call in the game. I don't think they have much choice on the call. Briscoe got "coached" on it.
