College athletic salaries out of control. Tuition and teachers pay suffer. Feel for those parties. Ticket prices continue to rise as do the empty seats. When does it crash?
As a teacher I was happy when my health insurance increase was only slightly more than my pay increase so I only went down in salary a little that year. 😂

The athletic department is self sufficient and doesn’t effect tuition or professors salaries. A lot of the money is coming from Disney and the SEC network deal. Seats are empty for basketball, but fans were filling up Kroger stadium.
College athletics and admin salaries are determined by the market and the position's influence in generating more revenue. We can opine about them being out of control, but they will increase as revenue/budgets increase for athletic programs that want to compete.
Has nothing to do with tuition and teachers' pay.
Tuition and teacher pay has to do with debt burden/greed of schools/gov and the availability of people to fill the positions.
Teacher pay- More work force available, more competition, lower pay. Most schools don't even use teachers to teach most of their students. They use grad students, which also drives salaries down and diminishes the quality of instruction.
Tuition- Too many university employees, no check on wasted labor hours, too many management positions, sprawling campuses as universities buy up more and more land increases operating expenses, and drains the state govs of funds building new facilities they never justify. Also, parents keep sending their kids to these schools in ever increasing numbers. Endless market for a diminishing return on the investment, is a boon for an always hungry system. Admin salaries for schools are also out of control.
Parents are the only ones that can stop it, and they seem reluctant to do anything except complain.

Gotta disagree. You are comparing apples to oranges. The SEC is going to distribute over $50 million this year to each school from just the SEC/TV revenue. These salaries are not coming out of tax payers pockets or preventing teachers/professors from getting raises. This money is coming from $ they are generating in television revenue. (Expected to be over $80 mil/year when Tx and Okla join up.)
Teacher's salaries (college) come from several sources including our taxes. Granted, no one wants their taxes to increase, but we want our teachers to be fairly compensated.
It's easy to roll coaches and teachers into the same category because they're school employees. Yet, the reality is that football/basketball coaches are employed to win games. (From a financial perspective, their job is to increase revenue.)
Teacher pay is a different subject for a different day, and probably a different board. I agree teachers deserve better compensation and it can be accomplished without raising taxes. There's a lot of tax revenue that can be reallocated and take it from the pork fat. But comparing coach salaries to teacher's salaries is creating a straw man.

There are 50k teachers in Ky…not Counting para pros and other non teachers. So Coen and White didn’t even get 1M in raises between them. So if we were to not give the money to these two and gave to teachers is would equate to $20 per year per teacher….hardly why teachers don’t get paid accordingly 😭
If you want you to pay teachers more….start with not paying teachers to retire at less then 50 years of age and draw bankrupting pensions, try cutting all the stipend programs to pay for middle school track , etc and just educate kids. And if families want sports, band, extra curricular activities….then families pay it instead of tax funded programs

Stoops 250,000 for the win and 600,000 in bonuses for the season. Makes over 6 million I think. Talking about his schedule during the season the hours he puts in is crazy. Doing what he is doing at UK getting the players and having to get new coaches all the time and still be this successful. Earning his money.
