What's up with the ushers?

Let me start by saying, this was my first trip to Lexington. It's a beautiful ball park in a beautiful city located in a beautiful part of the country. Kentucky fans were warm and welcoming, but what is up with the ushers? Not knowing the ticket situation, I bought reserved tickets for Friday night in advance. I showed them at the gate to get in, then was stopped by an usher inside who asked to see my tickets and directed me to my seats. As I was walking down the aisle to my seats, another usher chased me down and asked to see my tickets yet again. Another hog fan next me came in and sat down when the usher tapped him on the arm and asked to see his tickets. The place was maybe 20% full. Sunday, I bought dugout general admission and was stopped as I was entering the general admission area. Again, the stadium wasn't half full. The usher also came by and had a fan remove a jacket from the top of the dugout. The overzealousness just seemed unnecessary and took away from the experience at a beautiful ball park. Jmo, but if I'm not sitting in somebody else's seat, leave me alone.

Joke answer: They aren't used to seeing fans.

Serious answer: That is strange. I have only been to one game this year, opening day, but they were almost too relaxed at that game. They were helpful and nice, but you definitely had to approach them in order to get help, the ones around me didn't initiate any help.

The folks at the gate were like that. Clear bag?.....eh whatever. At Baum-Walker the gate bag-checkers are the nazis and the ushers leave people alone unless there's a problem. At Kentucky, I never got to go in the gate and simply walk to me seat.

I can kind of understand it with the reserved, I think, because it was my understanding (and I could be wrong) that almost all of those were sold to season ticket holders. So, maybe they were confused on why you'd have a ticket in that section? Still, sounds weird. Sorry that was your experience.

I think the OP was right. I had same experience this year in the new park. It's silly, we're not even drawing good crowds.

Also, it is STUPID the way that they've set up the general admission seats in the new stadium. They aren't even seats. You're siting on stone seats without your legs even touching the ground. Terrible idea, as you won't draw new fans who aren't already season ticket holders.

The easy answer is unless you are mighty on the K Fund list, UK doesnt care about you. A lot of season ticket holders at the cliff found that out. As for the ushers, or seat police as they have been called, think they are the gods at KPP. Comeback is right, opening night a little too relaxed but thats fine. First home game, still working the kinks out I get it. But, my family got to the park almost 2 hours before first pitch and my daughter wanted to take a picture of the little area where the uniforms are on the mannequins. We were quite rudely told we were not allowed in there that was for suite seats only. After trying to explain we wanted one picture, thats it, the woman threatened to have me removed from the stadium. I basically told her where to go, how to get there and what hotel to stay at. I reached out to UK about what happened, was basically given the middle finger and was told if we wanted to go in there, buy suite tickets.

On a side note, I dont know if its the lack of a competive team or what but my relationship with UK athletics has soured the last couple of years. I no longer find myself caring like I used to. Ill be honest, I had completely forgotten about the DH yesterday until I hopped on twitter and happen to see the score from the first game. Ive been to three games this year. In the past 11 years prior to this one, I have very rarely missed a home game. Only if work got in the way was I not there. Oh well, UK already got my $1100 from me this year. Who cares if Im there or not. Sorry..........

To be fair, they have general admission that isn't the brick seating. It's directly behind both dugouts. A pretty big section, but it is first come first serve. Chair back seating.

Well, there are several places where tickets get resold online. And who cares if the seat belongs to a season ticket holder who isn't showing up? If that person happens to show up, they could just say, "Excuse me, I believe you're in my seat" and the person moves. The place was maybe 30-40% full. I just don't see the need to be quite so strict.

Part of the problem might be the crowd size. I can't see the ushers being able to check every ticket if 9-10 K were showing up.

It's a really nice ballpark, but I, personally, would have enjoyed it more if the ushers had just chilled. IMO, the ushers should be there to help the fans and not hassle them. Seat police? That seems pretty appropo.

I don't disagree with you. That can be really annoying when that happens.

That was not the case when I was there. Any idea what section numbers?

101 and 102 behind first base dugout as well as 110 and 111 behind UK dugout. I sat in 111 when I went on opening day.

I think they just sell them as dugout tickets and then you can technically sit anywhere in those 4 sections.

Can you bring in folding chairs or seat backs for the stone seating areas?

No you cannot bring in your own folding chairs. The funny thing is buying a terrace ticket and the cost to rent the chair is the same as buying a dugout seat.

Don't feel bad. They've been doing that with all people (home and visitor) this season. Certain sections are left reserved no matter what, even if it looks awful on TV.
